Our hearts are breaking for our hometown of Lena—for our customers, our friends, our local businesses, and our neighbors.
We’re at a loss for words as we all face this together, but we know that as a tight-knit community, we will get through this.
We’ve included some insurance tips below, and you may see Gretchen out sharing flyers with helpful information on what to do next.

Document everything (before cleanup if possible)
Take photos and videos of:
• Structural damage (roof, walls, windows, seals, garages, additional structures, ect)
• Personal belongings
• Debris and fallen trees
Prevent further damage
Insurance policies usually require you to take “reasonable steps” to limit additional damage. That might include:
• Covering broken windows or holes in the roof with tarps
• Moving undamaged belongings to a safe place
-Keep receipts for anything you buy (tarps, plywood, hotel stays, etc.).—
• There are local roofing companies, and churches out in town today offering help--- take the help and do what you can to help others.
Don’t throw things away yet
Unless something is hazardous, keep damaged items- make a pile in your yard or driveway---until the insurance adjuster has seen them or given permission to discard. Take a photo, or several.
Call your insurance agent after you’ve been able to complete the above. Many are working today if able, but many have also been affected by the tornado and are doing the same at their homes. We will be ready on Monday after all damages have been able to be documented.
Once damage is assessed and a claim is filed:
Keep a claim file
Track:
• Claim number
• Adjuster’s name and contact
• Receipts and estimates
• Notes from phone calls
