✨ WEEKENDS ON WHIDBEY ✨
Looking for ways to get out and enjoy our beautiful island this weekend? We’ve rounded up some incredible local events happening right in our backyard. Whether you are looking for outdoor adventures, world-class theater, or locally grown treats, Whidbey has you covered this June 6th–7th!
🎣 Statewide Free Fishing & State Parks Weekend! Ready to cast a line? This Saturday and Sunday, June 6–7, is Free Fishing Weekend in Washington! It's the perfect excuse to grab the family or friends and head to one of our incredible local state parks like Deception Pass, Fort Casey, or South Whidbey Island State Park. No License Required: Anyone can fish for many popular species (like trout or bass in lakes, and bottomfish in the Puget Sound) without purchasing a fishing license. (Note: Licenses are still required for salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, halibut, and shellfish). Bonus Freebie: You won't need a Discover Pass to park! Vehicle parking fees are completely waived at all Washington State Parks, WDFW, and DNR lands all weekend long.
🎭 WICA Whidbey Island Center for the Arts is launching its highly anticipated New Works June festival this weekend! This event acts as an incubator for bold storytelling, fresh voices, and boundary-pushing theater. What’s on: Experience a professional staged reading of "Giant" (showing June 5 and 7), exploring the complex legacy of Roald Dahl, or attend the Solo Theatrics performances on Saturday, June 6. The Best Part: Every performance concludes with an audience talkback session, letting you engage directly with the artists!
🌳🪻Meerkerk Gardens in Greenbank is hosting its vibrant Purple Passion Sale alongside some fantastic educational opportunities for the green thumbs on the island. The Plants: Shop a wonderful selection of spectacular purple-flowering plants to add a pop of island color to your home landscape. Get Educated: On Saturday, June 6, they are holding a Pruning Basics class to teach you how to properly care for your trees and shrubs.
🏹Island Shakespeare Festival Association / Organization is gearing up for another legendary summer under the tent in Langley. This weekend gives you an early taste of the storytelling magic to come. The Show: Catch an outdoor performance of "Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest" on Friday night, June 5. The Vibe: It's a casual, community-centered way to spend a late-spring evening out with family and friends.
👩🏫 Pro-Tip for Peace of Mind: Whether you are packing up the tackle box for a day at the state park, bringing home delicate new flora from Meerkerk Gardens, or driving down the highway to catch a play in Langley, protecting your weekend adventures should always be stress-free. If you are planning on hauling a boat, loading up an RV, or taking summer road trips off the island, your team at Porter Whidbey Insurance want to make sure your coverage is as rock-solid as Deception Pass. Before the busy summer travel season hits full swing, give us a call or drop by the office to review your auto, home, boat, or recreational vehicle policies. We'll make sure you have the perfect protection for all your upcoming PNW adventures!
Have a safe, fun, and wonderful weekend!
