Last week, Riphean’s nonprofit of choice Gwyneth's Gift Foundation led an all-day CPR training event at Longfellow Middle School in Fairfax, VA where more than 1,000 students were trained to perform Hands-Only CPR. Because of this training and the school’s four AEDs, Longfellow became the first HEARTSafe school in Fairfax County.

In addition to the training at Longfellow, Gwyneth’s Gift will also be providing trainings to Katherine Johnson and Herndon middle schools in Fairfax County, and hopes to hold more events in middle schools throughout the state. The Foundation also has plans to deploy over 20 AEDs this year. We are proud to support them in their efforts to create a culture of action and a safer community for everyone.

Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC) recently hosted their 15th Annual Virginia Heart & Vascular Institute Symposium, attended by Riphean Founder & CEO Joel Griffin. The event highlighted the Virginia Heart and Vascular Institute, which is a concept that combines all elements of heart and vascular health care in one place for a better patient experience.

As members of the community, we feel incredibly fortunate to have such a strong healthcare system in our region. MWHC continues to make investments to strengthen and enhance their cardiac care with advancements in technology, patient education and cardiac rehabilitation programs. They are also an instrumental partner to our local nonprofits, providing support to Riphean's nonprofit of choice, Gwyneth's Gift Foundation, as well as many others.

This morning, Riphean Founder and CEO Joel Griffin was in Richmond to support Senator Jeremy McPike's Senate Bill 1453 as it passes through the House of Delegates cross-over committee process. Bill 1453 requires each local school board to develop a plan for the placement, care and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in every public elementary and secondary school in the Commonwealth. This bill would appropriately amend ‘Gwyneth’s Law,' a law passed in 2013 that required AED placements in Virginia high schools.

Our team fully supports Bill 1453 and its initiative to provide greater security for our children in schools and reassuring parents that their child's safety is a priority. Since 'Gwyneth's Law' was passed, Joel co-founded Gwyneth's Gift Foundation which provides Hands-Only CPR & AED Training, AED Placement, Scholarship Awards and Awareness Programs.

Earlier this week, Riphean Founder and CEO Joel Griffin visited the future site of Germanna Community College's cybersecurity training center in an event that hosted Senator Mark Warner and U.S. Senator Tim Kaine. The senators worked to secure $870,000 in federal funding for the center — part of $200 million in funding that is coming to Virginia through the federal government's annual budget.

"This money will help grow Germanna’s degree and credential programs so we can train and retain those professionals right here in Virginia," said Sen. Mark Warner. Germanna plans to begin offering classes in the new buildings in August 2024 and puts cybersecurity students in proximity to military bases Quantico and Dahlgren and many defense contractors, which offer potential internships and jobs.

Today, the Senate of Virginia is voting on Bill 1453 for Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in public elementary and secondary schools in Virginia. This bill would appropriately amend ‘Gwyneth’s Law,' a law passed in 2013 that required AED placements in Virginia high schools. With the passing of the new Bill, this requirement will extend to all public schools in the Commonwealth.

Our team, alongside the Gwyneth's Gift Foundation, fully supports Bill 1453 and requests the subcommittee, full committee and Senate body to vote in approval of this bill, providing greater security for our children in schools and reassuring parents that their child's safety remains the priority for this elected body.
