Born into slavery in 1858, Herndon went on to found the Atlanta Life Insurance Company in 1905.

At a time when access to financial protection was limited and unequal, he created opportunity, stability, and economic strength for thousands of families.

Leaders like Herndon didn’t just build companies, they built access.
