Update…. We had another occurrence of lug nuts being loosened/removed on a grain trailer left overnight in a field north off US 52 on 500 East. Fortunately when the trailer tires came off, they landed in the US 52 median.

Just FYI for our farmers and grain semi drivers…..

Today we took a report on a suspicious incident/attempted theft that occurred in the area of 400 S and 600 W in Benton County. A local farmer left their farm equipment in a partially harvested cornfield overnight. When they arrived back at the location the next morning the driver of the loaded semi pulled out of the field to head for the bin, when he reported losing the left rear tires off the back axle on the grain trailer.

Upon further inspection it was found all lugs were intact however all 10 lug nuts mysteriously unscrewed themselves!

Obviously that cannot happen so it appears we may have an individual or individuals, attempting to steal tires off of unattended grain trailers at night.

Community……if you happen to see suspicious activity around farm equipment left unattended, especially at night, please take the time to call the Sheriff’s Office at 765-884-0080 and report it.

Farmers….like you need one more thing to do this time of year but please have your truck drivers take a quick look each morning to insure the lug nuts and tires are all accounted for!
