To say the Gary V. Sharp Memorial Golf Tournament exceeded our expectations this year would be an understatement.
After the tournament was moved from Saturday to Sunday to accommodate attendance of Madison Marsh’s Celebration of Life, eighty golfers showed up to Cottonwood Links for a fun-filled tournament. While playing in a four-person scramble, the golfers also competed in longest drive, closest to the pin, a casino hole, and were even able to purchase a putt from an FHS golfer on hole #9.
The GVS Tournament and FHS Grizzly golf teams were hoping to use the tournament to raise upwards of $2,000 to support the Madison Marsh family in their time of need, but were caught completely off guard by all the generosity from the community and golfers. As we were announcing the winning teams for the tournament, each team generously handed back the envelopes full of prize money and told us to donate it to the Marsh family. This outpouring of support by our golfing community is why it’s always a Great Day to be a Grizzly!
On behalf of the Gary V. Sharp family and the GVS tournament directors, we are pleased to announce that the Madison Marsh family received $5,000 from the GVS tournament and all of its golfers and sponsors.
A huge thank you goes out to all of our hole sponsors: First National Bank of Fowler, The Oxford Bar and Grill, Thaxton’s Market, ChalkTime Preschool, The Family of Jerry and Sherri Harris, Jessica and Wyatt Mills, Praise Him Graphics and Embroidery, The Lundy Family, Tenth Street Tots, The Nesselhuf Family, Flanscha Family Racing, SoCo Security Storage, Otero True Value, Sticks Construction, Roots Real Estate, and the Apishapa Ranch.
A special thanks goes to our pitmaster Craig Manchego for smoking the delicious pulled pork served during the dinner.
We would also like to thank all of the volunteers who made sure the tournament ran smoothly on the course: Gina, Kristen, and Klara Sharp, Amy and Jody Pieper, Jenni and Craig Manchego, Ryan Nesselhuf, Taylor Hobby, and our FHS golf team members.
We are so grateful and humbled to have such a supportive community willing to support the 2024 GVS Memorial Golf Tournament and we can't wait to see everyone again next June!
