Bail and bail bonds are closely related, but they don't mean the same thing.
Bail is the amount set by the court as a condition of release from custody. A bail bond, on the other hand, is a financial guarantee submitted to the court to help secure that release.
When someone cannot or chooses not to pay the full bail amount, they may seek assistance from a licensed bail bondsman. The bondsman charges a premium for providing the bond, subject to applicable requirements.
Knowing the difference between these terms can help you better understand your options after an arrest.
