Most employers measure the cost of hiring.

Far fewer measure the cost of losing great employees.

According to SHRM, replacing an employee can cost anywhere from 50% to 200% of their annual salary depending on the role.

But the hidden costs are often even greater:

• Lost productivity
• Delayed projects
• Institutional knowledge walking out the door
• Customer relationship disruption
• Team morale impact

This is why I believe employee retention is no longer an HR problem.

It's a business problem.

As benefits consultants, we often find that turnover is connected to something much larger than compensation:

✔ Healthcare affordability
✔ Employee experience
✔ Leadership
✔ Communication
✔ Workplace culture

If retention is becoming a challenge in your organization, it may be time to look beyond recruiting and examine the employee experience itself.

Under ERISA, hiring a vendor isn't enough. Employers are expected to provide ongoing oversight and ensure those partners are acting in the best interest of the plan and its participants.

The question isn't who you hired.

The question is: Who is monitoring them?
