🩷 WHY ARE WE RAISING MONEY FOR MAMMOGRAMS?

Because early detection matters.

According to the , a screening mammogram is an important tool used to look for early signs of breast cancer — including abnormalities that may not yet be causing symptoms.

But access matters, too.

NBCF provides free and low-cost mammograms through partner facilities nationwide.

That's why this years Mavs & Mochas Revved Up for a Cure fundraiser is focused on helping provide access to mammograms for women in need.

🎯 Our goal: 80 mammograms

💰 Our fundraising goal: $12,000

🩷 Average cost of a mammogram: $150

You have $1 million saved.

But how much of that $1 million is actually yours to spend in retirement? 🤔

Here's something many retirement calculators don't explain well:

Not all $1 million is created equal.

Imagine three retirees:

👤 Person #1
$1M in a traditional 401(k)

👤 Person #2
$1M in a Roth account

👤 Person #3
$1M split between Roth, traditional & taxable accounts

Same amount saved.

Very different tax situations.

And potentially very different amounts of **after-tax retirement income.

That's why your retirement plan should consider more than your account balance.

You also need to think about:

💵 Roth conversions
📋 Required minimum distributions
🧾 Social Security taxation
🏥 Medicare IRMAA
📈 Capital gains
💰 Taxable brokerage withdrawals
🎁 Qualified charitable distributions
📊 Future tax brackets

The goal isn't simply to accumulate a big number.

It's to create a strategy for turning your savings into sustainable, tax-efficient retirement income.

So maybe your retirement number isn't:

“I need $1 million.”

Maybe the better question is:

“How much income can my $1 million actually provide after taxes?”

🎥 Watch the video for the full explanation.

If you're 5–10 years from retirement and want to understand your after-tax retirement income, schedule a Blueprint Call with Plumb Financial.

🩷 THE $150 CHALLENGE 🩷

What if 80 people in the community each donated $150?

We'd reach our goal.

80 people × $150 = $12,000

And our fundraiser tells us that the average cost of a mammogram is $150.

Our goal is to help fund 80 mammograms for women in need through the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. National Mammography Program.

Can't give $150? That's okay.

Every dollar helps us move closer to our goal.

Give what you can. Share this post. Encourage someone else to join you.

How much money do you need to retire in Texas? 🤔

$1 million?

$2 million?

There isn't a magic number.

Here's why.

Imagine a couple:

👫 Age 60
📅 Retire at 62
💰 Spend $90K/year
🏦 Have $1.5M invested
🧾 Receive $50K/year in Social Security
🏠 Still owe $250K on their mortgage

Are they ready to retire?

Maybe.

But we can't answer that question by looking at their $1.5 million portfolio.

We need to look at the entire picture:

➡️ When will they claim Social Security?
➡️ Will they pay off the mortgage?
➡️ What will healthcare cost before Medicare?
➡️ What will Medicare and out-of-pocket healthcare costs look like?
➡️ How much will they need to withdraw from investments?
➡️ How will inflation affect their spending?
➡️ How long might their money need to last?
➡️ How much of their retirement income will be taxable?
➡️ Would Roth conversions make sense?

And here's something important for Texans:

Texas doesn't have a state individual income tax—but retirement isn't tax-free.

Federal income taxes, property taxes, retirement-account withdrawals, Social Security taxation, and Medicare premiums can all be part of the equation.

So instead of asking:

❌ “Do I have enough to retire?”

Start with:

✅ “How much income will I need, where will it come from, and how long does it need to last?”

That's a retirement plan.

Can I retire?

If you're in your 50s and hoping to retire in the next 5–10 years, there's a better question than:

“How much do I have saved?”

You need to know these 7 numbers:👇

1️⃣ Retirement spending
What will your life actually cost? Don't forget travel, hobbies, home repairs, and healthcare.

2️⃣ Guaranteed income
Social Security, pensions, annuities, and other reliable income.

3️⃣ Investment assets
401(k), IRA, Roth, brokerage, and other investments.

4️⃣ Social Security benefit
What changes if you claim at 62, full retirement age, or later?

5️⃣ Healthcare costs
Especially the gap between retirement and Medicare, plus Medicare premiums and out-of-pocket costs.

6️⃣ Your tax picture
Traditional vs. Roth accounts, taxable investments, future RMDs, and how you'll generate income.

7️⃣ Your retirement age
Retiring at 60 versus 62 versus 65 can change the entire retirement equation.

Here's what I want you to remember:

There is no single magic retirement number.

Two people can be the same age, have the same amount saved, and have completely different answers to the question:

"Can I retire?”

Why?

Because retirement planning isn't just about accumulating money.

It's about turning your assets into sustainable income while managing taxes, Social Security, healthcare, investments, and the lifestyle you want.

Retirement isn't a number in your 401(k). It's a plan for turning your assets into income.

🎥 Watch the full video, then ask yourself: Do I know all seven of my numbers?

If you're within 5–10 years of retirement and want help putting your numbers together, schedule a Blueprint Call with Plumb Financial.

How much life insurance do you need? 🤔

And does the answer change depending on whether you choose term, whole life, or universal life?

YES.

Here's a simple way to think about it:

🔵 TERM LIFE

Usually used to cover a financial need for a specific period.

A starting calculation:

Income replacement + debts + future expenses – existing assets = estimated need

Example:

$100K income × 10 years = $1M

$300K mortgage
$100K education
– $200K assets

= $1.2M estimated need

🟣 WHOLE LIFE

Because whole life is designed to provide permanent coverage, the amount is usually based on a permanent financial need rather than simply replacing 10 or 20 years of income.

Think:

• Final expenses
• Legacy
• Estate liquidity
• Equalizing inheritances
• Lifelong dependents

🟢 UNIVERSAL LIFE

Also permanent coverage, but with additional flexibility in how the policy is structured.

It may be used for:

• Estate planning
• Business succession
• Legacy planning
• Long-term income needs
• Other permanent financial obligations

Here's the most important part:

Don't start by asking, “How much insurance can I afford?”

Start with:

👉 “How much would my family actually need if I weren't here?”

Then calculate the need.

Your income.
Your debts.
Your assets.
Your mortgage.
Your children's needs.
Your future obligations.
Your estate goals.

Then determine what type of insurance makes sense.

And don't forget—your insurance needs can change dramatically over your lifetime.

TERM. WHOLE. UNIVERSAL.

Confused about the different types of life insurance? You're not alone.

Here's the quick version 👇

🔵 TERM LIFE
Think: “I need protection for a specific period of time.”

Usually provides coverage for a set term—10, 20, or 30 years—with no cash value.

Common for:
🏠 Mortgage protection
👨‍👩‍👧 Income replacement
🎓 Raising children
💰 Protecting working years

🟣 WHOLE LIFE
Think: “I want permanent coverage.”

Designed to last your lifetime and typically builds cash value.

Common for people who:
✔️ Have a lifelong insurance need
✔️ Want guarantees
✔️ Want a policy that builds cash value

🟢 UNIVERSAL LIFE
Think: “I want permanent coverage with flexibility.”

Provides a death benefit plus cash value and generally offers more flexibility than whole life in how premiums and coverage are structured.

Common for people who:
✔️ Have a long-term insurance need
✔️ Want flexibility
✔️ Have more complex financial or estate-planning goals

The most important thing to remember:

There is no “best” life insurance for everyone.

The right type depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

Before you buy a policy, ask:

👉 How long do I need coverage?
👉 How much coverage do I need?
👉 What can I comfortably afford?
👉 Do I need temporary or permanent coverage?
👉 What role, if any, should cash value play in my financial plan?
