Mortgage Tip Monday: Continue to make on-time payments... including your mortgage or any loans associated with your house. The mortgage process can take at least 30-45 days, which means you will have to make at least one or two more house payments on your current house before you switch to your new mortgage.

Missing a mortgage payment or any other bills during this process can ding your credit. Then, the dominoes continue to fall. A ding on your credit means your credit score lowered. A lower credit score could affect your new mortgage interest rate. A higher interest rate means an increased monthly payment.

When you take out a mortgage, you need to prove you can reliably make the necessary payments. By switching careers, you generate a lot of risk for the lender. They have to ask themselves:

🏠 What if you don’t like the job and quit before you find something else?
🏠 What if your new company lays you off?
🏠 What if the benefits of the new company cost more, reducing your take-home pay?
