🏡 THINKING ABOUT BUYING A HOME?

Here are 4 important things NOT to do before or during the mortgage process:

🚫 1. DO NOT HAVE YOUR CREDIT PULLED WITHOUT TALKING TO YOUR LOAN OFFICER

Avoid unnecessary hard credit inquiries—including applying for credit on your own. Hard inquiries may affect your credit score and could impact your mortgage qualification.

🚫 2. DO NOT APPLY FOR NEW CREDIT

Avoid opening new credit cards, financing furniture or appliances, purchasing or leasing a vehicle, or accepting “buy now, pay later” offers without first speaking with your loan officer.

New accounts and additional debt can affect your credit score, debt-to-income ratio, and loan approval.

🚫 3. DO NOT MOVE MONEY BETWEEN ACCOUNTS WITHOUT TALKING TO YOUR LOAN OFFICER

Transferring money between accounts may create additional documentation requirements. Before moving large amounts of money, check with your loan officer so you know what documentation may be needed.

🚫 4. DO NOT MAKE LARGE, UNEXPLAINED CASH DEPOSITS

Large or unusual deposits may need to be documented and verified during the mortgage process. Cash kept outside of a financial institution—sometimes called “mattress money”—generally cannot be verified as an acceptable source of funds for a mortgage transaction.
