Night Devotion

Why would one envy an oppressor? Why would one be tempted to follow his ways? Is it not because of the ungodly gain that wicked men often make for themselves? They seem to "get away with it" and live like kings while the meek and godly live like paupers. But the secret blessings of the heart are with the righteous, while the oppressive are an abomination to Him.

Morning Devotion 🌄

Athletes and other achievers are able to accomplish much because of discipline. They’ve purposefully trained their bodies and minds, often to their own discomfort, in order to achieve results. The same is true of our spiritual lives. Hardships and trials are tools that God uses to discipline us, to provide spiritual training so that we may produce greater fruits of righteousness.

The fullness of God came to earth in Jesus Christ, which is an amazing feat in itself. But through Christ, even we can inherit God's treasure. As we strive to be like Christ in our daily lives, we actually do become like Christ in a very real sense. Just as Jesus is the Son of God, we too become His children, born of Him.

Our Lord Jesus Christ would have us not be embittered when mistreated by others. He would have us not return evil for evil but overcome evil with good. He commands us to wish well for and pray for those who do us wrong, caring more for the souls of others than for our own physical comforts.

Morning Devotion 🌄

Perhaps the two sweetest words in the whole Bible are found here, "But God. " In the verse just preceding, it is stated that believers were "children of wrath even as others" before their conversion. But God had a great love for them, which led him to "quicken, " that is "raise to life, " those who were dead spiritually. Paul then adds emphatically, "by grace you are saved. "

Some days, it seems the impossible just keeps mounting up. For some, it can even seem as though all hope is lost. The strength that God provides is unfathomable, much greater than any hopelessness anyone has ever experienced. God does not want us to fear, even when we don't know the solution to our most pressing problems. He will be there with his mighty hand if we remain in him.

Morning Devotion 🌄

The Holy Spirit is here called the Spirit of Wisdom, using a grammatical construction that in the Greek indicates the Spirit is the "source of" or "giver of" wisdom. In 2 Timothy 3:15, we learn that the Scriptures are "able to make you wise unto salvation. " When God opens our understanding to see the truth of the Gospel, he enlightens us and imparts to us wisdom to know and act on the truth. He then gives us hope of future glory and assures us of that hope by "the working of his mighty power" in us. That is the very power that raised up Jesus from the dead.
