Who do you think is most likely to buy a construction company in Southwest Florida?

A lot of people assume:
“Private equity”

Sometimes, yes.

But more often, it’s:

Another local construction company
An operator looking to step in
A regional buyer expanding
A smaller investment group

Not always big institutional money.

That matters because your entire sales strategy should be built around:

One thing most business owners don’t think about when hiring someone to sell their company:

👉 How are they getting paid?

Because it matters—a lot.

Some M&A firms charge:

Upfront fees
Monthly fees
AND a commission at the end

Nothing wrong with that structure.

But it does change the dynamic a bit.

If someone is getting paid along the way, the urgency can feel different.

Compare that to a success-based model:

No closing = no payday.

That creates a very different level of focus.

At the end of the day, if you’re selling your business, you want someone whose goal is simple:

👉 Get the deal done.

Most construction business owners I talk to assume:

“If I ever sell, I’ll probably need an M&A firm.”

Totally fair assumption.

But here’s the reality (at least here in Southwest Florida):

For most companies in the $10M–$30M range… that’s not always the best fit.

Why?

Because most deals at this level don’t come down to big, complicated processes.

They come down to:

Finding the right buyer
Positioning the business correctly
And actually getting the deal closed

Not dragging it out.

Not overcomplicating it.

Just getting it done.

If you’re ever thinking about selling, the better question is:
