One of the biggest problems with truck insurance has absolutely nothing to do with the price.
It's something almost nobody talks about...
There really isn't a rulebook.
Here's what I mean.
A new trucking company gets their insurance, activates their authority, lands a few loads, hires another driver, buys another truck, and starts growing.
Sounds like success, right?
Sometimes...
That's exactly what gets their policy reviewed.
The insurance company's system lets you add trucks.
It lets you add drivers.
It lets you issue new insurance cards.
Nobody says, "Hold on, you may be growing too fast."
Nobody warns you that these changes could trigger an underwriting review.
Then a few weeks later...
Your policy is suddenly under review or even canceled.
Not because you had accidents.
Not because you missed a payment.
Not because you failed an inspection.
Because underwriting decided they no longer liked the risk.
That's one of the hardest parts about commercial truck insurance.
The rules aren't always clearly defined, and they can change over time.
As a trucking insurance agency, we see this every day.
One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give is this:
Before adding multiple trucks, trailers, or drivers, talk to your insurance agent first.
Don't assume that because the computer lets you make a change, underwriting automatically approves it.
Technology processes requests.
People make underwriting decisions.
There's a big difference.
If you're starting a trucking company, growing your fleet, or just have questions about your current insurance program, we're always happy to help.
