The Southeast is on high alert for severe weather with a potent system bringing heavy rain, hail, strong winds and the possibility of tornadoes.

Multiple tornadoes have caused severe damage in Panama City, FL and Fort Lauderdale over the past 48 hours.

As this storm system continues to move northeast, people in vicinity of the storm should take actions to remain safe and secure until the storm has passed.

Tornadoes as stand alone events like the one in Fort Lauderdale yesterday are uncommon in South Florida. More typically, we see them as a preceding event right before a hurricane makes landfall.

While shorter in duration and limited in their destructive reach, the process for recovering from a tornado is similar to a hurricane.

When safe to do so…

Prevent further damage to your building (ie: tarp damaged roofs, dry-out wet interiors, etc)

Gather your restoration team to assess what repairs or replacements of damaged components are required

Review your insurance policy for coverage, highlighting applicable limitations or exclusions

From the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), more house fires occur in the winter months of December, January, and February than any other season.

These fires can be prevented by practicing good fire safety techniques around how spaces are heated when the temperature drops.
