Spring is beginning to fill the air here in Colorado, and with it comes the perfect opportunity for some much-needed home maintenance! Here are some tips from the Peter Vlcek Agency to help you kick off your spring cleaning routine:

Check Your Carbon Monoxide/Smoke Detectors:
• Take a moment to inspect the expiration date on your detectors, usually located on the back or bottom of the unit.
• Press the test button on each detector to ensure they're functioning properly. If the alarm doesn't sound, replace the batteries or the entire unit if needed.

Replace Home Air Filters:
• Dust, pollen, pet dander, and other allergens can accumulate in your air filters over time, reducing air quality and HVAC efficiency.
• Make it a habit to inspect your filters monthly and replace them as needed for cleaner air and optimal performance.

Inspect Your Home:
• Check your pipes and external seals for any signs of wear or damage and address any issues promptly to prevent further problems.
• Look around the corners and edges of exterior windows for any cracking or signs of damage (including basement windows

With severe sub-freezing weather expected to affect Northern Colorado over the next few days, it's crucial to take proactive measures to safeguard your home against potential damage caused by frozen pipes. Here are some essential tips to ensure your home is winter-ready:

1. Maintain a Minimum Temp
To prevent pipes from freezing, it is advised to keep your home heated to a minimum temperature of 64 degrees Fahrenheit. Consistent heating is crucial, especially during extreme cold spells.

2. Open Under-Sink Cabinets
Ensure proper heat reaches your pipes by leaving all under-sink cabinets open. This allows warm air to circulate around the plumbing, reducing the risk of pipes freezing.

3. Let Faucets Drip Overnight
Consider leaving both hot and cold water faucets running at a pencil-sized stream. This constant flow helps prevent water from stagnating in the pipes, reducing the likelihood of them freezing and bursting.

4. Know Your Emergency Shut-Off
Familiarize yourself with the location of your main water shut-off valve. In case of a frozen pipe burst, quick access to the shut-off valve can minimize potential damage.
