I was reflecting the other day on the day we purchased our first home. We hadn't been married very long, and I was still attending college classes and working full time. My wife was working full time as well. Then we heard about a home that was for sale by owner AND the buyer could assume the mortgage. We went to meet the seller and to learn more from the bank, how it could be possible for us to purchase this home. Sure it was scary, and yet exciting at the same time. The idea of owning our own home just seemed to make financial sense. We were establishing ourselves in the community, working full time, getting to know more locale business owners and their families. Now, what's my point? It was the best decision we ever made. We were able to build a financial start and with the equity we build over renting, we had funds to help over the years to buy again and again. We are now in our current home 35 years, in a neighborhood we truly are a part of. And, the best part? It all started with the first home.
