🚨💳 SCAM ALERTS! 💳🚨
Fraudsters are getting creative with new debit card chip scams — including “chip harvesting,” “chip burning,” and “shimming.”
Here’s what’s happening 👇

⚠️ CHIP HARVESTING SCAM
🕵️♂️ A scammer pretends to be your bank, saying there’s suspicious activity.
💬 They tell you to destroy your card but “save the chip.”
🚗 Then, someone shows up to “collect” it for security reasons.
➡️ Once they have the chip (and trick you into giving your PIN), they can drain your account or clone your card!

🔥 CHIP BURNING SCAM
📬 Criminals steal your new debit card right from the mail.
♻️ They swap out the real chip and attach a fake one.
📞 When you activate the card, you actually activate their chip — giving them full access to your account.

💽 SHIMMING SCAM
⛽ Tiny, paper-thin devices called shims are hidden inside ATMs or gas pumps.
💾 When you insert your card, the shim captures your chip data.
🧠 Scammers use that info to make fake magnetic-stripe cards to shop or withdraw cash.

🛡️ HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF
✅ Never give out your PIN or card info — your bank will NEVER ask!
✅ Don’t hand over your card or chip to anyone.
✅ Inspect ATMs, gas pumps & readers for loose or odd parts.
✅ Destroy old cards completely (cut through the chip!).
✅ Use tap-to-pay or a digital wallet for extra security.
✅ Set up alerts and monitor your accounts regularly.
✅ Report suspicious activity right away!

🏦 From First State Bank of Forrest:
We will NEVER send someone to pick up your card or chip.
If you ever get a call from “the bank” and you’re unsure — hang up and call us back using the number you know or one from our official site.
📞 Don’t call back the number that contacted you — it could be a phony.
💬 Always feel free to reach out or stop by.
No question is a dumb one when it comes to stopping fraud! 💪
