I grew up listening to Dolly Parton — a country kid from The Dalles. Since her passing, I’ve learned even more about the extraordinary amount of good she quietly did throughout her life. One program that especially resonates with me is Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Dolly created the program in honor of her father, who could not read or write. Literacy became one of the causes closest to her heart, and today her Imagination Library puts books directly into the hands of young children.

Here in Oregon, every child from birth to age 5 is eligible to receive a FREE, age-appropriate book in the mail every month, regardless of family income. The program is now available in all 36 Oregon counties, and families can also choose a bilingual English/Spanish book option.

This one hits home for me for another reason. Early in my previous career, as a young police officer, I had opportunities to hand out free books at schools and read to children — in uniform. I still remember one little girl looking up at me when I asked her if she would like to keep the book we just read together and her asking, “Are you on TV?” 😊 Those were small moments, but they stayed with me.

Getting books into a child’s hands matters. If you have a child, grandchild, niece, nephew or another little one in your life under age 5, sign them up. And if you’re looking for a worthwhile organization to support, consider making a donation so even more children can grow up with books of their own.

You're not imagining things. Market volatility during an election year does tend to elevate. But, history shows above-average returns are typical for a full year after Election Day. Did you know that since 1933, the who or what is in control of congress has had little impact on investment returns?

A very proud Mom moment! ⚓️ 💙🤍💛

My daughter graduated from U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps Recruit Training. I’m incredibly proud of the commitment, discipline, courage, and perseverance she demonstrated throughout this experience.

Watching her challenge herself, grow in confidence, and accomplish something so demanding has been truly special. Congratulations- you earned this, and I couldn’t be prouder!

She also started Freshman year of High School this week. …they say time will go fast, and it sure does.

Recently had the opportunity to gather with other women financial advisors affiliated with LPL Financial. One of the things I value most about this profession is that no matter how much experience we have, there is always something new to learn and fresh perspectives to consider.
