General information
Please come and participate in “Walk the Lake” and silent auction on October 1st, 2011. This year we will walk to benefit long-time Fontana resident, husband and father of 3, Greg Blizard. Just as many of us have experienced the effects of a poor economy, Greg lost his job mechanical designer in the chemical feeding industry in 2009 when the company he had worked at for over 34 years let him go, leaving he and his family without a steady income or health insurance. This spring, Greg experienced lower back pain and was diagnosed with a staph infection which settled on his spine. Surgery was required to remove the large mass of infection, a delicate procedure since it was resting on his spinal cord and nerves. After a week in the hospital, he encountered lower gastro-intestinal problems related to heavy medication resulting in yet another week in the hospital. After his release from the hospital, it was determined that Greg was not fully clear of his infection. He then underwent outpatient therapy, receiving daily doses of antibiotics intravenously for a full 8 weeks. His illness has left insurmountable medical expenses. Greg has lived in Fontana for over 4 decades. His service began a police officer for Fontana in 1975, he then volunteered with the Fontana Fire Department and Rescue Squad for 33 years and currently serves the community as a member of the EMS system. He is still actively responding to emergency medical calls as an ambulance driver for the EMS team. Many of you may know Greg from his younger days at Williams Bay high school, or have enjoyed a beverage and a burger with him at Chuck's or perhaps you've encountered Greg as he responded to emergencies throughout the community. We ask you to support Greg and his family by joining our walk around Lake Geneva or gathering with us at Chuck's for a silent auction and raffle.
