A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a great way to save money on health and wellness purchases. HSAs can be used for a wide range of health-related costs, and funds roll over year after year. 🩺
✔️ Common HSA-qualified expenses (some of which may surprise you!):
• Medical services: Doctor/hospital visit co-pays, lab tests, x-rays and imaging, physical/occupational therapy, chiropractic care, non-cosmetic surgery
• Medications and treatments
• Mental health and therapy: psychologist/psychiatrist visits, therapy, counseling, substance abuse programs, autism therapies, inpatient mental health treatment
• Dental & vision care
• Maternity and newborn care
• First aid and health supplies
• Medical travel
• Medical equipment or devices
❌ These items are NOT typically qualified expenses under an HSA:
• Cosmetic procedures
• Gym memberships/fitness equipment
• Vitamins and supplements
• Massage therapy
• Health foods or meal replacement shakes
The list of what you can purchase with HSA funds is determined by the IRS and can change annually based on new legislation, tax code updates, or federal health directives. Because of this, it's important to stay up-to-date with the latest IRS guidelines or check with your HSA provider to ensure that your purchases qualify. In addition, always save your receipts!
