Romance scams are one of the most emotionally devastating scams of 2026, and they are on the rise. Scammers create fake profiles on dating apps, social media, or even Facebook and spend weeks or months building a genuine connection. Once they have earned your trust, they manufacture a crisis, a medical emergency, a business deal gone wrong, a plane ticket they cannot afford, and ask you to send money. By the time the pattern becomes clear, thousands of dollars are gone.

Here's how to fight back:
✅ Never send money to someone you have not met in person, no matter how real the connection feels
✅ Do a reverse image search on their profile photo to check if it appears elsewhere online
✅ Be suspicious of anyone who avoids video calls or always has an excuse not to meet
✅ Talk to a trusted friend or family member if you feel a strong connection forming online
✅ Report suspected romance scams to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov

Let's talk homeowners insurance.

Specifically, replacement cost vs actual cash value. Do you know which one you have? 🏠

Most people never think about this until they have to file a claim. Then it matters a lot.

Here is the difference:
🔹 Actual Cash Value pays what your belongings are worth TODAY, factoring in depreciation. That 5 year old couch? You are getting what a 5 year old couch is worth, not what a new one costs.
🔹 Replacement Cost pays what it actually costs to replace your belongings with something new and comparable. That is the coverage most people think they already have.

Here is a real example:
❌ Actual Cash Value: Your roof is 15 years old. A claim pays out based on its depreciated value. You may be left covering thousands out of pocket.
✅ Replacement Cost: Your claim pays what it costs to put a new roof on. Period.
