GLEN IS HOME…20 DAYS AFTER 2ND HEART TRANSPLANT

Praise God!! Glen came home from the hospital yesterday!!

He has a long road ahead of biweekly doctor visits, cardio rehabs, physical therapy several days a week, biopsy’s and other procedures over the coming months to check things. He can’t drive for another 4 weeks. But he is home. And resting where there aren’t constant beeping machines and interruptions.

He had first shower in over 2 months last night when we got home. Something we often take for granted. The ability to take a shower whenever we want.

Take a moment to thank God for the simple things you get to do today. We still need your prayers. And I want to thank you with all our hearts for the prayers from everyone. Glen came home with kidneys that are healthy. Doesn’t meant he won’t need a transplant someday but for today he doesn’t need one or dialysis and that’s HUGE!!

As always please share our story and GoFundMe.

WE NEED OUR PRAYER WARRIORS!!!

Glen has been in a lot of pain the last 2 days. At night it’s pretty extreme every hour and a half. So very little sleep. It’s chest pain at night and he needs nitro to help. His shoulder pain from the Impella is so intense at times too. He’s hurting so much and at this point the only solution is a new ❤️.

He needs a new heart ❤️ asap. We need everyone praying for a new heart ❤️ for Glen.

I believe in the power of prayer. Please pray for him today anytime you think about it.

Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it, and you will.
- Mark 11:23-24

Thank you all for the comments you’ve made. We need your support and it’s so appreciated.

Please share this via text, email and socials. The more people praying the better.

Donations are always so appreciated too.

TRYING TO PATIENTLY WAIT ON FOR A NEW HEART! ON THE TRANSPLANT LIST @ STATUS 2!

I meant to post an update yesterday and just never got around to it. It feels like a lot happens everyday and yet not much at the same time.

No word on a new heart yet. He’s been on the transplant list since Saturday night so we are going 5 days he’s been on the list. I am really praying God gives him a new heart sooner rather than later. Living in bed, in ICU attached to the Impella (LVAD) is very hard on him.

Tuesday night he had some severe chest pain. It took a couple hours to get it under control with a nitro drip. But his chest pain is now much better.

His main pain is the extreme hematoma he has in his shoulder where they put the Impella in. You can see all the bruising in the photo. His shoulder pain has been intolerable at times. They are giving him a lot of pain meds which helps some but makes him sleep a lot which he hates.

He has been able to walk around the floor with physical therapy everyday so that’s encouraging.

He’s been here 9 nights so far. Despite how bad he’s feeling he is going a little stir crazy. Our kids are missing him so much. They come see him sometimes but it’s hard when they have school and life going on. Maybe it’s a good distraction for them to be busy with life.

As always thank you for the continued prayers. They make a difference. God hears them. Pray for me to please. It’s a lot to balance kids that are worried and my emotions and his emotions and regular life like bills that still need to be paid. Tasks that feel mundane compared to what we are going through.

Most of the time I feel an incredible peace that I have no control over any of this. We all spend our days trying to control things. It’s a different thing we each try to control or multiple things but we all struggle. Right now I have zero control when it comes to Glen’s health. God will either keep him here or he will take him to heaven. My choice is God keeps him here a whole lot longer. But since I don’t have control of the outcome I can’t help but feel at peace about it. I say this to encourage you to give up some control of something today if you can. Just surrender it and see if you feel a little bit more peace.

It was a long night of him staying sedated after they put the LVAD in yesterday. Because he had been taking plavix his blood was hanging trouble clotting and he was bleeding a lot. The LVAD is on the left which is how they could put it in while the balloon pump was in. They took the balloon pump out about 2 am. I got to watch. Some fascinating stuff. They took him off sedation about 5 am. He is taking a lot of pain meds though and it’s making his normal funniness even funnier. Hence the attached video 😆We are in cardiac ICU for the moment. And we are praying for the heart he will receive. https://www.gofundme.com/f/glen039s-heart-transplantDirect Ways to Donate Without Fees Being Taken Out- Venmo: -WhiteCash App: $NewHeartEntZelle: [email protected]

Day 3 update…
Well it’s been a whirlwind here at the hospital. They have crammed 3 months of transplant evaluation into a couple days. So far all of his tests are coming back without any issues. Many different doctors have cleared him for transplant.

Glens cardiologist came by yesterday and told Glen he isn’t sure how he is even talking. His heart failure is that severe. He is getting so little blood. Glen said it helped him realize, wow this is very serious.

He is bedridden and that is driving him crazy. Thankfully he sleeps a lot because of the narcotics they are giving him for pain. His right leg is in a brace to help him keep it straight. The balloon pump goes up through his groin into his heart.

We are hoping to hear they got him on the transplant list today. Then it’s just a waiting game. Could be hours, or weeks or months.

Thanks for all the comments, donations and prayers. Please continue to share our story. All donations help so much right now because he isn’t working.

Time for a 2nd heart transplant

Glen got back from his heart cath with a balloon pump. I am told he will have this pump until he gets a new heart. While he has the balloon pump he has to lay flat on his back. He is not able to sit up or move around.

Since last August the vessels to his heart have gotten much worse and have severe blockage. The transplant team is now fast tracking all the testing for his evaluation. They are trying to get it all done by tomorrow so he can go on the transplant list tomorrow.

Their goal is to get him a heart transplant while he is admitted.

This is a lot to process and not at all what we thought would come from this hospital visit. He is so strong. The things he has been doing with work and at home with only one working blood vessel shows what a fighter he is. My husband is an amazing man. I’m so blessed.

Please be praying that he is able to get a heart soon and that God provides the best heart for him. He has an incredible team of doctors here at UTSW but I’m sure they could use prayer too.

Thank you so so much for all the support.

Glen has been in the ICU since last night. Yesterday he was having severe chest pain and after taking several nitroglycerin his chest pain kept coming back so I brought him to the ER at UTSW. They admitted him in the wee hours of the morning to the ICU. They have him on a continuous drip of nitro. Without it his chest pain comes back immediately. They think he had a mild heart attack. It can be hard to tell in someone who has had a heart transplant because of the things internally that were severed when they cut open his chest. Based on the tests they ran it does look like one.

Glen has started all his testing and doctor appointments for the evaluation process to get approved to go on the transplant list. He has to see every kind of doc you can think of to make sure his body is healthy enough for transplant.

Our youngest son cried off and on for hours on Sunday when we told him Glen was going to be approved for a new heart. He just kept saying he didn’t want daddy to die. Our other kids tend to just shut down and not say much.

We are waiting to see what the doctors plan is for him today. I will do another update when I know more.

I know so many of y’all continue to pray for us. It means so very much that you do.

As always we still have bills to pay. A heart transplant is over $1 million. Any help you can give us is so much appreciated.

Please share our story via text, email and social media. If you want to read past updates check out our GoFundMe page.

Just a quick update. Glen had a follow up appointment at UTSW. Our main concern for the moment is extreme joint/bone pain. He’s very stiff and it makes standing up and walking tedious and painful. They did some scans and are hoping the results come back with something they can easily help with. So please be praying for him with regards to that.

His kidney numbers are trending in the wrong direction but not too severe right now. He’s been dizzy more often lately and has chest pain again some days. His doctor reminded us that because of the blockage in his arteries only so much blood can pump for anything needed in his body and this will lead to chest pain and tightness sometimes. In the moment of pain it feels so severe for Glen. Thankfully taking nitroglycerin has helped when he’s had that pain.

Please continue to share our GoFundMe on your social media and via text and email. We continue to need your support and prayers and are so grateful for all you have given so far.

THE IMPORTANCE OF TIME

Glen is still doing about the same. Some days he is able to walk a lot for him and he can just keep pushing. Other days of over activity leads to forced naps and having to take nitro for chest pain. Not a lot new to update but he is walking a lot more and I know it’s encouraging for him and me.

One day recently Glen said he worries his health staying this way just leaves me and the kids in a state of constant limbo. It’s probably a good way to describe it but do you know what it has done for me? It has allowed God to remind me again how precious our time is. How it is the one thing that can’t be replenished.

I’m sure you have heard the phrase “make up for lost time”. I don’t want to lose time. I want to make the absolute most I can of the time God has given me. Time with Glen. Time with our kids. Time with God. Time with our families. But the day to day of life. Trying to keep a business going. Paying bills. Trying to cook healthy meals and keep our house in even the slightest bit of order can start to feel more important than it really is.

Some of the most beautiful Bible verses are in Ecclesiastes chapter 3. There is a time for everything. If you haven’t read these verses I encourage you to. No matter what season or life you are in you will get something from them.

I want to ask that you continue to keep Glen and our family in your prayers. I believe prayer can heal. God works crazy amazing miracles. Please continue to share his story and if you are able to donate something each week or month. It really helps Glen by taking some of the burden he feels to provide for our family while so sick.

Thanks for listening to my thoughts and for your continued support. I am praying whoever reads this is able to take a moment in the quiet and thank God for the time he has given them no matter how difficult life may be.

1st OUTPATIENT INFUSION…fun times hooked up to an IV. He will have this treatment once a month for a few months and our hope is that it will help to kill the antibodies.

After all the treatments in August for rejection there has been moderate reduction in the antibodies.

Please continue to pray that the antibodies will be gone and he will be eligible for another heart transplant.

Please continue to share their story via text or email and post on your social media sites. You can read a more detailed updates on our GoFundMe page.

Big News! UTSW officially adopted Glen. We are so excited. UTSW does things very differently than Baylor. They assign a specific transplant coordinator nurse to each patient. We met with his nurse yesterday. She answered all our questions and gave us a notebook with information on transplant. We also met with Dr Farr who gave us the awesome news that Glen has been adopted into their program. They will do 3 more months of a Belatacept infusion once a month. They will see him in clinic once a month to check blood work and his medication levels. The doctor's goal is to give him as long as possible with his current heart. If the antibodies are able to be killed off enough for retransplant then in 3 months they will begin all the testing and evaluation needed to get him on the transplant list. His nurse told us she is one of the people that has to sign off on him being put on the list. If he's a good patient and follows what she says and isn't a pain then she said she will be his advocate. It was a great doctors appointment with some very attentive people. Long road ahead but we will still just take life day by day and be grateful the time God gives him here with us.

Here’s our GoFundMe link if you can continue to pass it on. And please continue with prayers.
