A few years ago, we heard the story of Welles Crowther, the “Man in the Red Bandana,” and his story stayed with us.
Welles was in the South Tower on September 11, 2001, and made it his final mission to help others find their way to safety. His courage and selflessness inspired Albany to share his story with her students each year. She would send each student home with a red bandana—a simple reminder of Welles and an encouragement to be brave, help others, and do what is right.
His legacy of courage and selflessness lives on, forever honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
We are especially reminded why we chose his name for our second son, Rory Welles Penter. With his red hair, Rory carries his own little reminder of the red bandana and of the kind of men we hope both of our boys grow to be: brave, selfless, and always willing to put others first.
May we never forget.

School is back and in full swing! Our oldest, Rowdey, loves his new school and teacher, and Rory is holding down the fort at daycare. To make this year a little more special, we had a Back-to-School breakfast party. As you can imagine, the morning was hectic, but we made many memories together and excitement for school was in the air.
We hope to carry on this tradition each year!
