Water Backup vs. Flood: Do you know the difference?

With all of the flooding across town over the last few weeks, I have been getting a lot of questions about coverage. Here is a quick 101 to help you stay protected.

Water Backup: Covers damage from water entering through your sewers, drains, or a sump pump failure. This is typically an optional add on to your policy. (Michigan most paid out claim).

Flood Insurance: Covers surface water coming from the "outside in" (like heavy rain pooling in your yard and coming through your foundation) this is almost always a separate policy.

Don't wait until there's a foot of water in your basement to find out which one you have. Send me a message if you want me to double-check your current limits!
