Fireplace safety 101:
~ Keep flammable material at least 3 feet away from your fireplace or wood stove.
~ Have your chimney inspected and cleaned by a professional each year.
~ Dispose of hot ash outside in a metal container with a lid, at least 10 feed from your home.
~ Place a screen in front of the fireplace or keep doors closed on wood stoves to prevent embers or sparks from jumping out.
