By increasing the use of targeted grazing, California farmers and ranchers may be an overlooked potential ally in doing the crucial work of building statewide resilience against future wildfires.🐑🔥

That’s according to new research by University of California Cooperative Extension livestock and natural resources adviser Dan Macon and UCCE specialist Leslie Roche. “Farmers and ranchers are in a great position to adopt targeted grazing because of their lifelong and often multigenerational understanding of their location, along with their ability to balance livestock needs with landscape goals,” Macon said.

⭐️⭐️Coconino County Fair ⭐️⭐️
Go to your local fair, walk past the rides and the games and find those livestock kids. Have a conversation with them, ask them about their animals. You just may learn something and have your faith in our future restored.
We fill the bleachers on Friday nights for football. We fill the bleachers on cold winter nights for basketball. We travel miles and miles, to sit in the bleachers for volleyball, baseball, softball, gymnastics, and dance.
Our 4-H and FFA families would like to invite you to fill the bleachers on a warm summer day during our county fair week of September 1st -4th and watch the kids who practice with a 1200 pound steer that doesn’t always want to walk, a 140 pound lamb that doesn’t want to get on the stand for the 100th time, a 280 pound hog that just wants to stay in the cool barn or a stubborn goat that doesn’t like the chain/halter.
Come check out the Clubwork building for all the non-livestock exhibitors. Those kids have heart and dedication and put hours into their creations.
Let’s fill the bleachers, barns, and buildings to show these kids that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed and because of them, the future of the agriculture and leadership is in good hands.
Copy and Paste if you support or promote your local county fair! 🐷🐮🐴🐔🐑🐇🦃🦮🐄♥️

Engineers continue to be deployed throughout the Museum Flood Area and east Flagstaff to evaluate flood mitigation efforts on private properties and advise residents on the best approach to mitigate flood impacts to their homes without negatively impacting neighbors.

You can request a site-assessment if:

🔘 Flood water has overtopped your sandbags
🔘 Flood water is impacting your home even with sand bags or other mitigation
🔘 You are concerned about impacts from nearby sandbag/mitigation efforts

To request a site assessment, please contact the Museum Flood Area Call Center at 928-679-8525. City and County crews will be conducting these assessments prioritizing residents who are elderly and disabled, as well as properties where water has impacted the interior of the homes.

SUBJECT: Communities South of I-40 and West of I-17 Moved from “SET” to “READY”

Flagstaff, AZ – The communities South of I-40 and West of I-17 will be downgraded from “SET” (Pre-evacuation) to “READY” status.

“READY” status means- you are aware of and monitoring fire activity in your area. You should have basic plans in place for yourselves, important documents, medications, pets and livestock in the event that a “GO” message is received.

“SET” status means- knowing there is significant danger in your area - residents should consider voluntarily relocating to a shelter or with family/friends outside the affected area. Residents should avoid close contact with those who are sick and should practice public health recommendations when relocating. Grab your emergency go kit. Keep in mind unique needs for your family or special equipment for pets and livestock. Stay aware of the latest news and information from public safety and public health officials.

The decision to downgrade evacuation status was made with the Type 1 Fire Incident Management Team that is now managing the Rafael Fire. After considering several factors to include fire behavior, fuel types, natural barriers, estimated time of evacuation, and other factors it was determined that this area was no longer currently in imminent danger from the Rafael Fire.

The neighborhoods and communities included in this change of status are Kachina Village, Forest Highlands, Pine Del, Mountain Del, Flagstaff Ranch (including Gore), Equestrian Estates, Westwood Estates, and University Heights.
