True or False: If a family has more than one child in college at the same time they could qualify for more financial aid?

Answer: True, well, it used to be. Financial Aid awards were usually higher for parents of twins/multiples or for families with siblings that are close in age. However, recently passed legislation will change how Financial Aid is calculated eliminating this discount. This change will prove very costly for families with more than one child in college at the same.

True or False: Planning for college means you intend to pay for college?

Answer: FALSE

I often get the “I had to pay my way through college” response from parents when I talk about college planning. There are two key points that are overlooked with that mentality.

1. College is A LOT more expensive today than it was when we went to school and a part-time job is not going to close the gap.

2. Helping your student make the 2nd largest financial decision of their lifetimes is not just important, it’s essential. Planning for college is about setting realistic expectations, choosing “Right Fit” schools, and understanding the real impact of student loan debt on their future, and yours.

Join us next Tuesday, Feb 8th, for our seminar on Major Changes to Financial Aid: What you need to know. This highly informative event is free and open to the public. Please SHARE this post on your wall so we can reach as many families as possible.

Applying for Financial Aid has been simplified...unless you are a divorced parent.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) previously required only the parent with whom the student lived with most to complete the FAFSA. This parent was considered the "custodial parent" when filing for financial aid. The new rules will require the parent who provides the greatest portion of the student's financial support to file the FAFSA. This change will tremendously impact financial aid eligibility for many families!

Planning for college has always been important and now, with these new rules, it is essential. We will be offering Free VIRTUAL workshops on these changes next Tuesday, April 27th, at 12pm OR 5:30pm. Please help us reach as many families as possible by sharing this post.

True or False: If a family has more than one child in college at the same time they could qualify for more financial aid?

Answer: True, well, it used to be. Financial Aid eligibility had always increased for families with twins/multiples or for families whose children were spaced closer together. An imbedded formula change in recently passed legislation could prove very costly for families with more than one child in college at the same.

To learn more about how this change will potentially impact your family, please register for our upcoming VIRTUAL WORKSHOP on Tuesday, April 27th at 12pm OR 5:30pm. Please help us spread the word about this informative event by sharing this post!
