๐Ÿค”Question of the day:
Who is known for saying "The best investment you can make is an investment in yourself!"

Answer belowโฌ‡๏ธ

And if you have a moment, please help me spread the word about April's personal finance sessions, I truly believe investing in ourselves is the best gift we can give to...you guessed it, our own selves!

Elizabeth: Can we go get cookies?
Me:Not today, we used our budget for this month...
Elizabeth: Don't you have any coins?!
Me:๐ŸคฃThey are part of the budget that we just used...you can use your own money though!
As she's walking away, Elizabeth: Then why don't you just go to work?!(I got done with work less than 2 minutes before this conversation)๐Ÿ˜…

The most important thing in your journey towards financial freedom is the belief you have in yourself:

You deserve to enjoy your life the way you want, if you think otherwise, you will keep allowing something/someone else to make decissions for you.

After an insanely crazy two weeks with losing power due to a snow storm, feeling more tired than ever before, I managed to do my taxes...well, last night!๐Ÿ˜…

Did I have plenty of time before all this? YES

Did I start them in February but never finished? YES

Did I realize my situation changed and I actually had to delete everything and restart my application(last night)? Also YES!

Here's to the little things that make me realize I am an adult and I need to do it all myself...ugh!๐Ÿ™„

Last but not least, tip no. 31:

Identify your core values vs your consumer values!

What stands at the base of who you are?

Is it integrity?
Honesty?
Kindness?
Commitment?

These are just a few of the values that make a big difference in someone's life, and they should be a priority when it comes to making all pur life decissions.

Consumer values have a role in our lives as well but they shouldn't take priority over the core ones because they focus on superficial decission making.

Stay true to yourself, following the herd won't make you happier.

Tip no. 30:

Budget for non-monthly bills!

Utilities bill?๐Ÿšฟ๐Ÿ›
Car insurance?๐Ÿš˜
Business registration fees?๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿ’ผ
AAA?

These kind of bills are set up to be paid every 3 months to a year so in order for me to be ready for them since they tend to be a larger amount, I incorporate them in my monthly budget.

How?

For example, at the end of April I need to pay my "utilities bill" that totals up to $220), so I divide $220/3mo.=$73/mo. I need to put aside that last amount in order to be prepared.

I have peace of mind knowing everythings is budgeted for!

Tip no. 29:

Plan ahead for events!

Kids' birthday?๐Ÿฅณ
Christmas?๐ŸŽ„
Best friend's wedding?๐Ÿคต๐Ÿ‘ฐโ€โ™€๏ธ
Thanksgiving?๐Ÿฆƒ

We all know when they happen, so we can plan ahead to be able to celebrate them without getting into debt and stress about any of them.

In order to keep myself organized for events like this, I set up a budget ahead of time and stick to it.

Remember, the amounts don't have to be overwhleming, you do you!

Happy celebrations!๐ŸŽ†

Tip no. 28:

Develop healthy habits!๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ "Mens sana in corpore sano."
which translates to
๐Ÿง‘โ€โš•๏ธ "A healthy mind in a healthy body"

We cannot expect to be in good shape if we eat fast-food๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ” and live a sedentary life, we cannot be happy if we have toxic relationships...๐ŸงŸโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸงŸ

We also cannot ensure an enjoyable retirement for ourselves if we don't pay attention to our financial habits.๐Ÿง“๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿฆณ

Its important to make conscious decissions on every aspect of our lives because they are all connected and one cannot function without the other.๐Ÿ’ซ

Start small, be consistent and dream big!๐Ÿ’ช

Tip no. 27:

๐ŸซกTake responsability!๐Ÿค

Actions have concequences, we all know that!๐Ÿ’ฏ

๐ŸงBefore we blame it on inflation, economic crisis, whatever is decided at the White House, let's focus on how we act around money, how aware are we about our spending habits and what we prioritize.

๐Ÿค”Because you know what else we know?

Hard work pays off!๐Ÿ’ฏ

So why not pay ourselves first?
I think its a much deserved reward!

๐Ÿ—You are the key to rewarding money habits!โœจ๏ธ

Tip no. 26:

Go thrifting!

If I need an item for my place or even clothes, I first look to see if I can find them on FB market place; I also enjoy looking for things at the thrift store!๐Ÿฅณ

I have found my bed frame, decor, sweaters, brand new boots, etc for a price I couldn't pass.๐Ÿ‘

There is nothing to be ashmed for when putting an item to good use that doesn't come in a box, if its in safe, good condition, I would say "Go for it"!๐Ÿ’ฏ

I always like to think I am doing a good deed by keeping stuff out of the landfill.๐Ÿฅฐ

Here's a list of things I purchased used:

โœจ๏ธMirror:$20-$60 new

๐Ÿ’žBed frame-King size:FREE-$200 on Wayfair-(picture used from Google)

๐Ÿชฉ"Boggs" boots:$45(they were brand new!!!)-originally $75 if bought somewhere else.

๐ŸŽ‰Ralph Lauren sweater jacket:$12 new with tags(don't even ask me how much would have been from their store, I don't dare to look)๐Ÿซฃ
๐ŸŽRoxy cartigan:$6

๐ŸŽ€Lamp base: FREE, lamp shade bough new for $10.

๐ŸŽ‹Night stand: FREE

Other items pictured were free or very low priced, I cannot remember how much they were.

What was something you thrifted and you love?

P.S: I like to rotate, give a fresh layer of paint(or just sand)to the decor or furniture I already have when I want to give my house a new look without breaking the bank.

Tip no. 25:

Have "no-spend challenges"!โ›”๏ธ

I sure budget every month, however, getting creative and finding free activities is so much fun for me.๐Ÿ’ฐ

Last month I posted about my decission to cut all of the unnecessary expenses and it paid off.๐Ÿ’ฏ

So I plan to incorporate this more during the year because spending money to have fun is not mandatory.

๐Ÿ“–I truly enjoyed the book "What color is your parachute(for retirement) by John E. Nelson and Richard Nelson Bolles, they talked about the choices we make it life and how we get more and more distanced from our core-values and surrender to consummer-values.

๐Ÿ’กThis really was a wake up call for me because we tend to be so focused on what marketers are telling us on how to live our lives that we forget what is most important: human connection.๐Ÿ’ก

I hope we can all meet and enjoy each others' company without feeling the need to spend in order to have a good time.๐Ÿฅฐ
