The CDC reports over 100,000 carbon monoxide-related ER visits every year in the U.S. This odorless, colorless gas can be fatal, so it’s essential to have working carbon monoxide and smoke alarms on every level of your home.

With daylight saving time coming up, most clocks update automatically, but you should still take a minute to check your carbon monoxide and smoke alarms and replace the batteries. A good rule of thumb: change them twice a year—when the time changes. It could save a life.
