Contractors, here's something worth understanding:

Finishing the job doesn't necessarily mean your liability exposure ends.

Let's say you finish a project, leave the jobsite, and six months later something involving your completed work allegedly causes property damage or an injury.

That's where completed operations becomes an important part of the insurance conversation.

Your risk doesn't always clock out when you leave the jobsite.

If you're a contractor and haven't really gone through your completed-operations coverage, it's worth understanding.

Quick question:

What's your homeowners insurance deductible?

If you had to think about it, you're definitely not alone.

People tend to know what they pay for insurance but don't always know how much they're responsible for when there's a claim.

And depending on your policy, certain types of losses may even have different deductibles.

That's something I'd rather have you understand now than discover while there's a tree lying across your roof.

Take five minutes and look.

And if you don't know what you're looking at, send it over. I'm happy to help.

Your Insurance Company Doesn't Know You Bought That Equipment!

Your business buys things throughout the year.

A new piece of equipment. Another trailer. Computers. Machinery. Tools. Maybe you upgraded half the office.

The problem is your insurance policy doesn't automatically know your business changed.

It's easy to spend $20,000, $50,000, or more growing a business and never think to tell your insurance agent.

Then a loss happens and everybody starts looking at the limits.

When your business makes a significant investment, make updating your insurance part of the purchase.

If you've added equipment or property this year and haven't reviewed your coverage, let's take a look.

At the end of the day, personal insurance really comes down to protecting the whole picture:

Your home.
Your vehicles.
Your toys.
Your income.
Your family.

That's the goal.

Not just buying another insurance policy.

It's making sure the things that matter to you are actually protected the way you intended.

If you'd like me to review your current coverage and help identify anything worth a closer look, I'm here.

What If the Loss Comes From Inside?

Not every business loss comes from a stranger breaking in.

Employee theft, fraudulent transfers, forgery, and other crime-related losses can create exposures that aren't always handled the way a business owner assumes.

Crime coverage is one of those pieces that can get overlooked because nobody likes imagining that someone they trust could cause a loss.

Hopefully you never need it.

But “hopefully” isn't really a risk-management strategy.

If you've never reviewed the crime coverage in your business insurance program, it's worth a conversation.

The Annual Household Insurance Checkup!

A simple habit I recommend: once a year, review the whole household.

Cars. Drivers. Home updates. Recreational vehicles. Liability limits. Life insurance. Big purchases. Major changes.

It doesn't have to take forever.

But it can catch things that otherwise sit unnoticed for years.

If you'd like to do a simple policy review before the year gets away from us, send me a message.

Your Business Has Changed. Has Your Insurance?

Think about where your business was three years ago.

Same revenue?

Same employees?

Same vehicles?

Same equipment?

Same location?

Same services?

Same customers?

Probably not.

But sometimes the insurance program looks remarkably similar.

Your annual review shouldn't just be “Here's the renewal premium.”

It should be a conversation about what's changed in the business.

If it's been a while since somebody actually asked you those questions, let's talk.

Another October life insurance question:

“I already have life insurance. Why would I need to look at it again?”

You may not need to change anything.

But think about what might have changed since you bought it.
Your income may have changed.

You may have bought a different house.

Had another child.

Taken on—or paid off—debt.

Changed jobs.

Started a business.

Your kids may be older.

Your goals may be completely different.

A policy you put in place years ago might still be exactly what you need.

Or it might not be.

That's why I like to review life insurance rather than automatically replace it.

If you can't remember the last time you looked at yours, October is a pretty good excuse to pull it out and take another look.

How Long Could You Stay Closed?

Here's a business-owner exercise worth doing:

Imagine you can't operate from your location starting tomorrow.

How long before it becomes a serious financial problem?

A week? A month? Three months?

Business-income coverage isn't something I want clients trying to understand for the first time while they're already dealing with a major property loss.

Know what your policy is designed to do before you need it.

Cheapest Isn't Always Cheapest!

One of the frustrating things in insurance is watching someone save a little money while unknowingly giving up coverage they actually wanted.

A cheaper premium can come with different deductibles, lower liability limits, reduced protection, or missing endorsements.
Price absolutely matters.

So does what you're actually buying.

If you want a second opinion before switching policies just to save a little money, I'm happy to review it.
