44% of people usually spend more than their gift card is worth. Gift card season is your chance to sell more. 🎁

Last holiday season, 43% of shoppers planned to buy at least one gift card (National Retail Federation). And 55% of people say they would try a new business because of a gift card. You get paid when the card is sold, it gets spent in your store later, and your shop's name rides along in someone's wallet the whole time.

Thinking about adding a credit card surcharge?

There’s more to it than adding a percentage at checkout. Before you turn it on, make sure you understand the rules.

Here are a few of the big ones:

• No fee on debit. In Visa’s own sign wording: “We do not surcharge Visa debit cards.” Surcharges apply to credit cards only, not debit or prepaid, even if the customer selects “credit.”
• Keep it at 3% or less. Your terminal charges one rate on every credit card, and the surcharge can’t be more than what you pay to accept the card.
• Notice comes first. Visa requires written notice to your acquirer at least 30 days before publicly announcing or beginning to surcharge, whichever comes first. Mastercard has its own advance-notice requirements. We handle the written notice for you.
• Customers need to know before they pay. Proper disclosure is required, and the surcharge needs to appear on the receipt. The right signs and the right terminal keep the program running properly.
• If a transaction is refunded, the applicable surcharge must be refunded too.
• In Washington, a surcharge used to cover credit card processing costs is generally part of the taxable selling price. On a taxable retail sale, that means sales tax applies to the surcharge as well.

Ten years is more than an anniversary. It’s thousands of conversations, relationships built, problems solved, hard days pushed through, victories celebrated, and a whole lot of heart poured into something you believe in.

Today, we celebrate 10 years of Alicia Gelles at Northwest Payment Brokers. 💚

If you’ve worked with Alicia, you already know: she is one of the bedrocks of this company.

She puts everything she has into our customers. She fights for them, listens to them, teaches them, and genuinely cares about the businesses and people we serve. And she brings that same commitment to our team and to the growth of Northwest Payment Brokers.

But ten years together becomes about much more than work.

Alicia has become a partner in building this company, a mentor who makes the people around her better, a steady voice when things get difficult, and—most importantly—a truly great friend.

Companies grow because of numbers, strategies, products, and opportunities. But they endure because of people. People who show up. People who care. People who believe in what they’re building and in the people they’re building it with.

Alicia is one of those people.

9/11 — A Day We Remember.

Twenty-five years later, there are moments from September 11, 2001 that remain impossible to put neatly into words.

We remember the lives that were lost.
We remember the families whose lives changed forever.
We remember the first responders who ran toward danger.
And we remember the countless ordinary people who, in an extraordinary moment, chose to help one another.

At Northwest Payment Brokers, we spend most of our days talking about businesses, communities, and the people who keep them moving. Today is different.

Today is simply about remembering the people.

The courage. The sacrifice. The humanity. And the way Americans reached for one another when it mattered most.

May we never forget those we lost, and may we continue to honor them in the way we show up for our neighbors and our communities.

Happy Birthday to the woman who somehow keeps all the moving pieces moving. 
Jaeden is so much more than the person at the front desk. She’s the hub — the admin, the point of contact, the familiar voice, the problem solver, and often the person connecting the dots behind the scenes at Northwest Payment Brokers.
But beyond everything she does, we’re especially grateful for who she is.
She brings warmth, patience, heart, and a genuine care for the people around her. And as this beautiful photo reminds us, there’s an entire life and family behind the people we’re fortunate enough to work alongside every day.

Usually, he’s the guy behind the post. Today, we’re putting him in it.
If you’ve followed Northwest Payment Brokers for any amount of time, you’ve seen Mr. Smith’s work — even if you didn’t know it.
The graphics. The social posts. The campaigns. The cold calls. The ideas that start with “Okay, hear me out…” and somehow turn into something we actually use.
This Sunday, the guy behind a lot of what you see from NWPB officially turns 46.
And while we could make the obligatory joke about him now being closer to 50 than 40, we’ll give him the day off. Mostly.
What we really want to say is thank you.
Thank you for the creativity, the persistence, the willingness to pick up the phone, the ideas, the questionable ideas, and the genuine care you put into telling our story and supporting the people around this company.

Some teams work together. This team knows how to have fun together, too.

We traded the office for Topgolf, brought a little friendly competition into the mix, shared plenty of laughs, and were reminded just how much fun this group is when we get the chance to step away from the day-to-day and simply enjoy being a team.

A huge thank you to Amy for guiding this crew, bringing everyone together, and creating opportunities like this to strengthen the relationships behind the work we do every day.

David is truly one of those people who makes work better simply by being part of the team. His quick wit and one-of-a-kind sense of humor keep us laughing, while his dedication to his customers shows just how much he genuinely cares about the people he serves.
