To become a doctor in the United States, a nurse must meet medical school admission requirements, complete medical school, and complete a residency program. The process is similar to what other applicants go through.
Steps:
1) Earn a bachelor's degree: A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree counts as a bachelor's degree for nurses.
2) Take the MCAT: The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) assesses knowledge of topics covered in prerequisite courses, such as chemistry and biology.
3) Apply to medical school: The American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) can help with the application process.
4) Attend medical school: Use your nursing skills to assist with surgical procedures and other clinical work.
5) Earn a doctor of medicine (MD) degree
6) Complete a residency program: Residencies can last 3–7 years.
