One week from today, Greg Maxwell, JD, CFP®, and Daniel Maxwell, JD, are hosting a free webinar for personal injury attorneys, case managers, and paralegals.

“My Case Settled, Now What? Settlement-Related Planning Issues”

When a PI case settles, what settlement-related issues are you missing?

We’ll look at six areas that often come up when a case resolves:

- Government benefits
- Structured settlement annuities
- Medicare
- Settlement taxes
- Planning for minors
- Attorney fee tax planning

The goal is simple: help you know what to look for, which facts can change your client’s options, and when it makes sense to bring in outside help.

The webinar is 25 minutes, followed by optional live Q&A.

Settling a case soon? A tax-free annuity may be worth a closer look.

We recently secured a qualified structured settlement annuity with a 6.01% tax-free internal rate of return from an insurer rated A++ by AM Best. These rates are among the highest we've seen in the last 20 years.

Here's why the tax-free benefit matters: at an illustrative 40% combined federal and state marginal income tax rate, a taxable investment would need to earn about 10.02% to match that 6.01% tax-free return on an after-tax basis.

If you or your client is approaching settlement, we can help you explore whether a qualified structured settlement annuity makes sense for your situation.

This illustrative quote was for a period-certain annuity with payments spanning more than 10 years. IRRs vary by quote and payment schedule; not every case will receive 6.01%.

Tax-free treatment requires a qualifying settlement. The comparison assumes earnings taxed at the stated rate and does not compare investment risk or liquidity. General information, not tax, legal, or investment advice.

This video shares when it may make sense for plaintiff attorneys to use a Qualified Settlement Fund (QSF).

A QSF can be an excellent settlement tool that benefits all parties involved in the case: the plaintiff attorneys, the defendants, and the clients.

In personal injury settlement, structured settlement annuities are one of the most commonly used settlement planning tools.

However, there are annuities — other than structured settlement annuities — that are available to settling clients.

In some situations, using a fixed indexed annuity or equity-indexed annuities may make more sense (particularly in our historically low interest-rate environment).
