At Landmark we have been working on our "Why" stories. Why we do what we do. I would love to share mine with you.
“ARE YOU HAPPY?”
This was the question my husband of 9 years asked me one evening.
I’ll never forget it. I was standing at the kitchen sink, looking out the window doing dishes. He gets home from work and asks, “Are you happy?”
Before I could even answer, he says, “I’m not, I’m done.”
As you can imagine, THIS ROCKED MY WORLD. I was sad, angry, and confused.
I remember thinking things like, “How am I going to take care of my son?” “Where will we live?” and “Do I need to get a full-time job?”
I was also really scared. If you’ve ever had the bottom fall out of your life for any reason, you know the feeling.
I WAS SCARED BECAUSE I HAD VERY FEW RESOURCES AND NO FINANCIAL PLAN.
I was only 31 years old, and despite encouragement to start planning for the future, I didn’t think I needed to yet.
I was wrong. I quickly realized two things; IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY TO PLAN, and my lack of planning put me in a very vulnerable position.
I spent about a year struggling to make ends meet, raising my son, and trying to reenter the work force. Thankfully, I found a job as an assistant in a financial planning firm.
LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT JOB WOULD TURN INTO MY CALLING.
See, the experience of having my life dramatically change in a snap and not being financially prepared for it, combined with having a front-row seat watching my mentor make a huge impact in the lives of his clients, made me realize, “I want to be an advisor too!”
That was 11 years ago. Today, I obviously have a financial plan and best of all, I’VE HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF HELPING HUNDREDS OF CLIENTS plan for the future and achieve their retirement goals.
My mission is that when clients work with me, they never find themselves in a tough situation without a guide and a plan.
If you'd like to connect send me a message. I’d love to hear your story.
