“Recently, Thrivent brought Dr. Gary Chapman to Fargo for a live seminar on The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace. What I expected to be an insightful event turned into something much more personal—it challenged me to look in the mirror.
As I listened, I found myself asking a simple but important question: Do the people I work with truly know they are valued?
My honest answer was that I can do better.
The experience reminded me that appreciation isn't just a leadership skill—it's a choice we make every day. A choice to see people, understand what motivates them, and recognize the unique value they bring. It's inspired me to dive deeper into this book, get to know the people I coach on a more personal level, and intentionally put these lessons into practice.
Turnover is expensive, but the real cost is losing great people. I genuinely love what I do, and I sincerely enjoy the people I have the privilege of working alongside. My goal isn't simply to build stronger teams—it's to become a better leader, a better coach, and a better advocate for those around me.
It also made me wonder: Do you feel valued where you work? Are you part of a culture that invests in people, encourages growth, and strives to make a meaningful difference?
One of the things I appreciate most about Thrivent is our commitment to bringing in world-class speakers and thought leaders—not only for our employees, but for our clients and community as well. We believe growth happens when people are inspired, challenged, and supported.
If you're looking for a place where culture matters, leadership is intentional, and people come first, maybe it's time for a conversation.”
