Fair food. Carnival lights. One mysteriously sticky cup holder.

If you’re headed to the Red River Valley Fair, here’s your friendly reminder to do the quick car check before you go: current insurance card, no valuables sitting out, and a plan for the parking lot shuffle.

A fun summer night is better when the boring-but-important stuff is handled first.
What’s your must-get fair food this year?

The moment you bring on your first employee, most states require you to carry workers' compensation insurance. Rules vary by state and industry, but the threshold is often one W-2 employee. Some states include part-time workers, and a few cover sole proprietors by default.

Workers' comp covers medical bills, a portion of lost wages, rehabilitation costs, and death benefits when an employee gets hurt or sick on the job. In exchange, employees generally give up the right to sue their employer for that injury. That protection works in both directions.

Operating without required coverage can result in steep fines, stop-work orders, and personal liability for the owner if an injury occurs. The fines often dwarf what the policy would have cost in the first place.

If you're hiring or thinking about it, get this in place before day one. Call now!

A customer trips in your shop and breaks a wrist. A contractor's tools fall through a client's ceiling. A competitor claims your ad copy misrepresents their product. Any of these can land on a small business as a lawsuit.

General liability insurance responds to claims of bodily injury, property damage, and personal and advertising injury caused by your business operations. It pays for legal defense, court costs, settlements, and judgments up to your policy limits, even when the claim turns out to be without merit.

Defense costs alone can run into the tens of thousands of dollars long before anything reaches a courtroom. Many landlords, vendors, and clients now require a certificate of insurance showing general liability coverage before they'll sign a contract or let you on site.

If you run a business of any size, this coverage is foundational. Call us today.

A Business Owner's Policy, or BOP, packages two essential coverages into one product: general liability and commercial property. Many BOPs also include business interruption coverage, which replaces lost income if a covered event forces you to close temporarily.

Bundling these coverages usually costs less than buying them separately, and carriers often add helpful extras: equipment breakdown, data compromise, employee dishonesty, and coverage for valuable papers and records. Note that the exact mix varies by insurer.

BOPs are designed for small to mid-sized businesses with manageable risk profiles. Eligibility depends on your industry, revenue, square footage, and claims history. Restaurants, retail shops, professional offices, contractors, and many service businesses commonly qualify. High-hazard operations may need a different structure.

If you currently piece your coverage together one policy at a time, a BOP review is worth twenty minutes. Call us, and we'll take a look.

Liability is the part of your auto policy that pays for damage and injuries you cause to other people and their property. Most states require it. Full coverage adds collision and comprehensive, which pay to repair or replace your own vehicle after a covered loss.

Full coverage makes a lot of sense when you owe money on the car or when its value is high enough to justify protection. The math gets trickier on older vehicles. If your car is worth $3,000 and you're paying $1,500 a year for full coverage with a $1,000 deductible, you're spending half the car's value each year for a maximum payout of about $2,000.

That doesn't mean dropping coverage is automatically right. It depends on your savings, how essential the car is, and your risk tolerance.

We can walk through it together—call now!

An accountant misses a deduction, and the client gets a tax bill they didn't expect. A consultant recommends a strategy that backfires. A web designer ships a site with a bug that costs the client sales. A real estate agent leaves a clause out of a contract.

Claims like these fall under professional liability insurance, sometimes called errors and omissions or E&O. General liability handles bodily injury and physical property damage. It won't respond to a lawsuit alleging that your advice, your work product, or a missed deadline caused a client financial harm.

If you charge for expertise, services, or advice in any form, you have professional liability exposure. Defense costs alone can run into tens of thousands long before a verdict or settlement.

Many client contracts now require proof of E&O coverage before work can begin. Call us for a quote.

Two homeowners with similar policies can get very different checks for the same loss. The difference often comes down to one line buried in the declarations page: actual cash value versus replacement cost.

Actual cash value pays the depreciated worth of what was damaged. A 10-year-old roof might be valued at a fraction of what a new one costs to install. Replacement cost pays to put a comparable new version in its place, subject to your policy limits.

The same hailstorm can produce a $5,000 ACV settlement and a $20,000 replacement cost settlement on the same roof. Personal property works the same way. Your 8-year-old TV is worth a lot more new than depreciated.

Pull out your policy and look for the loss settlement section. If you have questions about what you're seeing or want to upgrade, call so we can help.

You can do everything right behind the wheel and still get hit by someone who can't pay for the damage. Roughly 14% of US drivers, about 1 in 7, carry no auto insurance at all. Many more carry the bare state minimum, which can be exhausted by a single ER visit.

Uninsured motorist coverage steps in when an at-fault driver has no insurance, including hit-and-run situations in many states. Underinsured motorist coverage kicks in when the other driver has a policy, but their limits aren't enough to cover your medical bills, lost wages, or pain and suffering.

Both coverages are usually inexpensive to add and pay for things your collision policy won't, like medical care and lost income. Some states require them. Even where they're optional, skipping them is a gamble.

Let us check your current limits. Call today.
