It’s a good time to prepare our homes for the winter. Here are some winterizing tips to minimize potential claims.

Drain your lawn sprinkler system
Close and drain outdoor faucets and hoses
Clean gutters and downspouts. Even a small clog in a gutter can prevent water from properly draining which could lead to ice accumulations and ice dams
Cover or store outdoor furniture and appliances
Trim trees and clean up the yard. Weakened tree branches can be a hazard during blustery winter weather
Install adequate insulation to the attic, crawlspaces, and pipes
Seal cracks around windows and doors
Inspect the roof for any issues. Addressing any issues before snowfall could help in preventing water leaks
Service the HVAC System
Clean the chimney; remove any creosote or soot build up to prepare for use
