Colleges and scholarship committees want to see students who are engaged, compassionate, dependable, and willing to pour back into their communities. Community service helps show leadership, initiative, teamwork, and character — all things that matter beyond grades and test scores.

Start early and keep track of those hours because Auntie does not want anyone scrambling senior year trying to remember what they did in 10th grade. 😭

Most importantly, community service reminds us that success is not just about what we achieve for ourselves, but how we help others along the way. 💫

A strong recommendation should come from someone who can genuinely speak to your character, work ethic, leadership, or academic potential—think educators, counselors, mentors, coaches, supervisors, or employers.

And listen… we know your mama, auntie, and cousins love you down 😄💜💙
But for scholarship applications, your reference letter should come from a professional or academic source whenever possible.
