As Independence Day approaches, we'd like to give a shout out to America and wish the good ol' USA a Happy Birthday!

Enjoy the freedoms and liberty America has to offer. Hang out with friends and family, go to that fireworks show, or catch some rays on the beach. No matter how you’re spending your 4th of July celebrations, we wish you a very safe and cheerful holiday.

As we too will be celebrating, our office will be closed this Thursday, July 4th and Friday July 5th.

Don't forget to be mindful of your surroundings, safety is key. If you’re driving, be on the lookout for drinking and driving, as this is one of the worst days of the year for accidents involving alcohol.

If you are drinking alcohol, utilize resources such as a sober designated driver, public transportation, or a planned carpool. By utilizing these resources, or being one yourself, lives can be saved.

Enjoy your well-earned time off and celebrate life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, marking the day when slavery came to an end in the United States. On this day, we have an opportunity to affirm once more the universal right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for every human being.

In recognition of this holiday, we will be closed on Wednesday, June 19th, 2024.

I hope that you will join us on June 19th, in reflecting upon how far we have come, how far we have yet to go, and how we can continue to advance the cause of freedom and justice in our society today.

From a local heating company:
Friday, we all will experience temperatures and wind chills that our homes' heating systems are NOT designed for. Negative numbers!
Newer homes will struggle to maintain temperature, and older homes will NOT maintain temperature. The temperature WILL drop while the heating system is working at full capacity.
1. Please raise the temperature in your home 2 to 4 degrees above your normal setting.
2. Take all programmable thermostats out of setback mode and set on a permanent HOLD.
3. If you have a furnace; replace the filter.
4. Keep garage doors closed.
5. Limit opening exterior doors.
6. Make sure air vents and radiators are not blocked or obstructed.
7. If you have a 90%+ furnace and boiler, you must keep the intake and exhaust clear of ice and snow. During these cold temperatures, ice can build up. A 90%+ furnace and boiler have 2 white PVC pipes; an exhaust pipe, and an intake pipe that are generally on the side or back of your home.
8. Refrain from using pellet stoves or supplemental heat forms if you have a water-based heating system. The pipes WILL freeze.
If the temperature in your home is dropping and your radiators are HOT with boiler systems or you have HOT air coming out of your vents with furnaces, DO NOT PANIC. Please make sure that your heating system continues to operate.
If the temperatures drop in your home, it will not be able to recover until temperatures rise and the windchill diminishes. Our heating systems can not overcome temperatures -20 to -30. They are sized to operate at 0 degrees outdoor. Put your thermostat on hold at 70 degrees or higher.
To help minimize temperature loss, you can boil water, make soup or stews, or bake something - it helps introduce humidity and warmer temperatures into your home. Please check on neighbors and elderly residents during these extreme temperatures. Stay warm and safe this week.
The key is to NOT panic with falling temps inside your home if you have heat coming out of your registers. It is doing all it can. If it had feelings, it would be crying!
Stay safe and bring your pets inside!
Turn pellet stove down or off during cold snap. Sat am. Put heat on so pipes won’t freeze because they will.

Do you know on average 250 home fires start with Christmas trees per year? The result of these fires cost 14 deaths, 26 injuries, and $13.8 million in direct property damage annually.

Here are some tips to help prevent your Christmas tree from catching fire during the holiday season:

Don’t let your tree lose its needles.
Cut 1 inch off the trunk, then place the tree in water immediately to help it absorb water.
Dried Christmas trees burn much faster than watered trees. Your tree stand should hold at least 1 gallon of water. A 6-foot tree will use 1 gallon of water every two days. Check the water level every day.
Clean the tree stand to improve the tree’s water intake; do not let the tree run out of water.
Keep your tree away from floor heaters, fireplaces, or other heat sources.
Use only UL-approved lights, and no more than three strands linked together.
Wash your hands after handling lights and decorations, due to lead dust found on most imported decorations.
Use miniature lights—which have cool-burning bulbs.
Turn off the Christmas lights when you sleep or leave your home.
Never use real candles on or near an artificial or real tree.
Ensure that tinsel or artificial icicles are made of lead-free material.
Avoid decorations that tend to break easily or have sharp edges.
Keep tree trimmings that are small or have removable parts out of the reach of small children, to prevent them from being swallowed.

Please be safe this weekend as we all take a moment to pause and give thanks for what we have. Our office will be closing at 2 today and will re-open on Monday morning.
Keep in Mind that Thanksgiving Eve. The Wednesday night before Thanksgiving is an evening associated with drinking and a big night for bars. From 2012 to 2016, over 800 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday period (6:00 p.m. Wednesday to 5:59 a.m. Monday), making it the deadliest holiday on our roads in the United States.
In 2019, bars saw a 173% increase in shots sales on Thanksgiving Eve compared to the Wednesday prior.
Pleae be sure to have either a designated Driver or take a ride service / cab to and from any and all activates where you might have an adult beverage or two
