Tucked away in Coryell County, Oglesby is one of those communities where history and hometown pride run deep.
Established in the 1880s along the expanding St. Louis Southwestern Railway, the town, originally known as Hilltop, began as a small stop for farmers, travelers and trade connecting rural Central Texas to nearby markets. In 1883, a post office was established, and the community was renamed Oglesby in honor of William Oglesby, who donated land for the townsite. From there, the town grew around agriculture, local mills and the steady movement of rail traffic that supported everyday life.
Through the years, Oglesby has remained rooted in its agricultural heritage while adapting alongside the surrounding region. Generations of families have called this place home, building a legacy of resilience, hard work and strong neighborly connections that still define the community today.
Today, we’re proud to be part of this community. At First National Bank, it’s more than banking. It’s about supporting the people, businesses and communities like Oglesby that continue to carry that legacy forward.
