Last night, Douglas County Farm Bureau proudly hosted our Annual Legislative Dinner. The evening brought together elected officials from the county, state, and federal levels to discuss the issues that matter most to our communities, our state, and our nation.

As one of the three pillars of Farm Bureau, advocacy remains at the heart of our mission. This event provides a unique opportunity for agricultural producers, board members, and policymakers to engage in meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing Kansas agriculture and rural communities.

We were honored to hear remarks from every elected official in attendance, including representation from the Governor's Office, allowing attendees to gain valuable insight into current priorities and initiatives at every level of government.

The Legislative Dinner is widely regarded as the most important advocacy event of the year for our organization. By fostering open dialogue and building relationships between Farm Bureau and elected leaders, we continue to strengthen the voice of agriculture and ensure that the concerns of Kansans are heard.

Thank you to all of our elected officials and guests who joined us for an evening of productive conversation and collaboration.

Together, we are helping shape a stronger future for agriculture, our communities, and the state of Kansas.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend — it is a day rooted in gratitude, reflection, and remembrance.

Originally known as “Decoration Day,” Memorial Day began after the Civil War as communities gathered to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers and flags. Over time, it became a national day of remembrance for all U.S. military personnel who gave their lives in service to our nation.

As we spend time with family and friends today, let us also take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of so many heroes. Their legacy lives on in the hearts of a grateful nation.
May we never forget those who gave everything for our freedom. 🇺🇸

Applications are now being accepted for the 2026 Kansas Leopold Conservation Award.

The award honors ranchers, farmers and forestland owners who go above and beyond in their management of soil health, water quality and wildlife habitat on working land.

Sand County Foundation and national sponsor American Farmland Trust present Leopold Conservation Awards to private landowners in 28 states. In Kansas, the $10,000 award is presented with Kansas Association of Conservation Districts, Kansas Farm Bureau and the Ranchland Trust of Kansas.

Given in honor of renowned conservationist Aldo Leopold, the award recognizes landowners who inspire others to consider conservation opportunities on their land. In his influential 1949 book, “A Sand County Almanac,” Leopold advocated for “a land ethic,” an ethical relationship between people and the land they own and manage.

“The Leopold Conservation Award highlights farms and ranches that are strengthening their land today while protecting it for future generations because they know conservation isn’t a program, it’s a way of life,” said Joe Newland, Kansas Farm Bureau president. “I encourage any Farm Bureau member of Kansas interested in applying to reach out to KFB for assistance in completing the application.”

Award applications may be submitted on behalf of a landowner, or landowners may nominate themselves. The application form can be found at www.sandcountyfoundation.org/ApplyLCA.

The nomination deadline date is June 1.

These outstanding young leaders have worked incredibly hard, demonstrated dedication to agriculture, and represented Douglas County Farm Bureau and our community with excellence.
