Good afternoon! Please see below reference the harvest proclamation Governor Reynolds signed today.

The harvest proclamation allows vehicles transporting corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage and stover to be overweight (not exceeding 90,000 pounds gross weight) without a permit through Oct. 1, 2022.

This proclamation applies to loads transported on all highways within Iowa (excluding the interstate system) and those which do not exceed a maximum of 90,000 pounds gross weight, do not exceed the maximum axle weight limit determined under the non-primary highway maximum gross weight table in Iowa Code § 321.463 (6) (b), by more than 12.5 percent, do not exceed the legal maximum axle weight limit of 20,000 pounds, and comply with posted limits on roads and bridges.

It's too hot...too humid...and this line of storms is vicious. A derecho is possible as it moves ESE...northern Iowa, please pay attention later this afternoon into this evening! Farther south, it's questionable how strong it may be...pay attention anyway...it's very volatile with this kind of heat present. - Kaj

**Special added note, 1:50pm** For something to be classified as a derecho, it needs to produce severe wind of 58 mph or more for 240 miles or more. While the word "derecho" logically produces 2020 flashbacks for all of us...realize that event was of record strength. Most derechos are NOT like the 2020 event and are typically much weaker. This being said, it's an important and ethical responsibility of the weather community to message the threats when they are present, like they are today, in the interest of your safety. This is simply a message that yes, a derecho is possible this evening in parts of Iowa and is also agreed upon by the Storm Prediction Centers' 11:30am outlook. Some good advice from IDOT!

When you come up on a piece of large farm equipment on the road, remember that the farmer may not be able to pull off on a soft shoulder due to the weight of the implement. Please have patience with those who are growing your food and fuel.

Little different spring from a year ago, hopefully things straighten up so we can get the ball rolling on our outside activities! 🌳🌸🌽

We all know that it has been a windy month (even further back than that too). Just how windy though? Look at all the days with gusts over 30 mph in Sioux City. Eight days have had gusts over 50 mph too! We have already gusted over 30 mph today, hence the empty shading for today.
