City of Essex, IA Essex is a city in Page County, Iowa, United States. The population was 798 in the 2010 census. Essex was platted in 1870.

The Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad arrived in Essex in 1871. Essex is located at 40°49′59″N 95°18′19″W (40.833016, -95.305208) near the East Nishnabotna River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.51 square miles. Essex population history

The city would like to remind everyone especially with all of the rain recently that it is strictly prohibited per ordinance 95.04 to pump water from a sump pump, downspout or any other surface run off or groundwater into the sanitary sewer system. It must be ran outside to the outdoor storm drains, yard or road area. Please discontinue this immediately as it is a big drain on the sanitary sewer system. Thank you once again for your understanding and patience.

Reminder our yard waste site is still closed due to water, even if the gate is open do not go across the lagoon. There is a spot off the road before the gate for branches and yard waste to be dumped. Please utilize this until notified it is open again. Thank you

There will be a spot to put branches on airport road but please avoid going past the lagoons as it is not safe. We will update once we are able to reopen. Friendly reminder with the Fourth of July right around the corner and more people setting off fireworks. The City of Essex would like to remind you that you are responsible for cleaning up all debris and trash from the fireworks. Also, for your safety and our city workers’ safety please dispose of them properly, make sure they are fully detonated and soak them in water before adding them to the trash. Let’s work together to make this a wonderful and safe Fourth of July!
