One Lancaster farmer put it simply: “People don’t realize how fast farmland can disappear once it’s gone.” Once a farm is developed, it isn’t something that can easily be brought back.

Lancaster County is more than beautiful rolling hills and Amish country. It is working farmland, family businesses, and generations of agricultural history. The message from local farmers is simple: support Lancaster farmers while there is still farmland left to protect.

Vera Wang, a senior at Kaiser High School, discovered that fungi living naturally on coconut husks can break down plastic and sunscreen. Working in scientist Anthony Amend's lab at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, she found that tannins inside the coconut fibers actually encourage these powerful fungi to grow. Her research even revealed species that do not match anything in the world's largest gene database, meaning she may have found life forms never recorded before.

This matters because plastic pollution and chemical runoff from sunscreen are damaging oceans every single day 🌊. A high schooler proving that nature already holds solutions is genuinely moving, and it reminds us how much power curiosity can have. 🏡 She spent $150,000 of her retirement to make sure women wouldn’t grow old alone.

At 70, Robyn Yerian could have used her retirement savings to simply enjoy her own life.

Instead, she invested $150,000 of her 401(k) into creating something much bigger.

In Cumby, Texas, she built The Bird’s Nest, a tiny-home community designed for older women who wanted affordable housing — and, just as importantly, companionship.

On five acres, Robyn created 14 tiny-home spaces. Today, 11 women between the ages of 60 and 80 live there, paying around $450 a month.

But what they found was more than an affordable place to live.

They share meals, run errands for one another, check on each other when someone is sick, and gather together under the community pavilion.

They don’t just have neighbors.

They have a community. ❤️

The demand was overwhelming, with reportedly more than 500 applications for just 14 spots.

Robyn could have kept her retirement savings for herself.

Instead, she used part of it to build something money can’t easily buy:

A place where women can grow older without having to grow lonely. 🥹❤️

After her husband passed away, Dr Margaret McCollum found comfort by regularly visiting Embankment station on the London Underground. Her late husband, actor Oswald Laurence, had recorded the famous “Mind the gap” announcement for the Tube in the late 1960s. Hearing his voice on the platform helped her feel close to him.

When the old recording was replaced during a digital system upgrade, she was distressed and reached out to Transport for London. Touched by her story, they gave her a personal copy of the recording and restored the original announcement at Embankment station.

Thanks to their kindness, she could continue hearing her husband’s voice when she visited the relevant Embankment platform.
