Succession planning is one of those things that tends to get pushed off, but waiting until you're ready to exit usually leaves you with fewer options.
Our own Jeff Smith, CEO at Kodiak Interiors Group, recently wrote a great article on the topic with succession planning advice that can apply to business owners everywhere: start early, define what matters to you beyond the sale price, build leadership depth so the business isn't entirely dependent on you, and know that your options are wider than just "sell or close."

We’re excited to welcome MLD to the Kodiak Interiors Group family!

For more than 30 years, MLD has built its business around strong relationships—with customers, employees, contractors, manufacturer partners and the communities it serves. That commitment makes MLD a natural fit with KIG.

Through this partnership, MLD will maintain the local brand, leadership and customer relationships that have driven its success while gaining access to KIG’s resources and network to support continued growth.

With MLD joining KIG, our network now includes six operating companies serving customers across nine states.

We’re proud to welcome the MLD team and excited for what’s ahead!

Last week, the KIG team volunteered at Wilderness On Wheels, helping support their incredible mission of making the beauty of Colorado’s outdoors accessible to everyone. From repairing sections of the boardwalk to planting flower beds and tackling general grounds maintenance, we were proud to lend a hand in creating welcoming, wheelchair-accessible nature experiences.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to help preserve a place where more people can connect with the outdoors and make lasting memories. Here’s to stronger communities, beautiful landscapes, and making a difference—together. 🌿🌼🌳🏔️

Cash flow discipline is becoming an increasingly important factor in how building products companies operate, manage risk and support long term growth.

Kodiak Interiors Group Director, Credit & Accounts Receivable, Dan Simpson, will join an upcoming BuildingBlocks webinar focused on how a stronger understanding of margins can help streamline the risk versus reward decisions credit and sales professionals face in today’s competitive environment.

Drawing from his experience supporting credit and AR operations across Kodiak Interiors Group’s growing national platform, Dan will share practical insights related to risk management, customer relationships and maintaining healthy cash flow consistency.

For operators focused on strengthening back office infrastructure and improving financial performance, this will be a valuable discussion.
