Buyers always ask: Why does my lender care about my insurance? Simple answer: until the mortgage is paid off, the lender has a financial stake in the house. If it burns down with no insurance, they lose too. That is why lenders require coverage at least equal to the loan amount and get listed on the policy. Most buyers escrow it right into the monthly payment.
