As of July 1st, 2026, the USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) announced a few Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) changes.

--Unborn bulls & heifers can now be insured up to 900 lbs. (previous limit was 599 lbs.)
--Fed cattle - steers & heifers can now be insured up to 1,800 lbs. (previous limit was 1,600 lbs.)
--Beginning Farmer/Rancher Definition: The One Big Beautiful Bill Act extended the definition of Beginning Farmer/Rancher to 10 years vs the previous limit of 5 years.

All these changes are great for the program and now a producer can customize their coverage even more to fit their operation. These updates have made LRP a more attractive and viable option for livestock producers. If you have any questions, give one of our LRP Agents a call today!
