J.T. Rosborough, Inc. is a full-service, locally owned and operated independent insurance agency located in Ellsworth, Maine. We provide a broad array of property, casualty, health and life insurance products and services. We are seeking a dynamic, motivated and experienced Commercial Lines Account Manager to join our team.
This full-time position will be primarily responsible for new and renewal insurance servicing and support to include: quoting, account service, application preparation and follow-up, creating and maintaining client and policy information, and other clerical duties as assigned. Ability to create and maintain strong relationships with clients and underwriters is a must. This is an inside service position and includes a small amount of inbound sales. Ability to multi-task, excellent phone presence and willingness to work as part of a team are critical to the position. This is an in office position with some remote flexibility possible for the right candidate.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Willingness and desire to grow and support growth within the agency
• Familiarity with paperless office concept, document scanning, email, etc.
• Working knowledge of computers and typing, experience with Microsoft Office
• Experience working with AMS 360 or comparable agency management system
• A positive, friendly and professional attitude
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma/GED (required)
• Prior experience in a professional atmosphere
• Maine P&C Insurance License
• 3-5 years of insurance industry experience preferred

Having our business housed in a beautiful historical building, we have become accustom to fielding questions about the history and details of the building and thought it would be nice to share some of that information here!

J.T. Rosborough, Inc. moved to our present location at 214 Main Street in 1976. The historic Samuel Kidder Whiting House was built in 1871, commissioned by Whiting when he was merely 19 years old. Designed by Bangor architect George Orff who designed many local homes and commercial buildings in the area during that time, including the Adams-Pickering Block located in downtown Bangor. The Whiting House is known to be a beautiful example of “Second Empire” architecture with the shape and details of the building becoming synonymous with J.T. Rosborough being “The Home of Insurance”.

Following suit with the opulent architecture, the fixtures that adorn the interior of the historic building are a decadent combination of “Eastlake-Neo-Gothic-Aesthic” styles. Most notable are the light fixtures present in the main hall and a pair of matching chandeliers in the adjoining parlor shown here.

It’s believed the light fixtures were all manufactured by Bradley and Hubbard of Meriden, CT. Although Nathaniel Bradley, William Bradley, and Walter Hubbard started their Connecticut-based company in 1852, they did not begin to manufacture light fixtures until 1859, when oil was discovered in Pennsylvania. From there the business took off, with their growing list of products being marketed across the nation by traveling salesmen and in their own showrooms in New York, Boston, Chicago, and Philadelphia.

At the time of the Whiting House construction in 1871, electric lighting was not commonplace and the fixtures installed were illuminated using gas. In the 19th century the gas that flowed through them was made from coal not natural gas, but these have since been converted to electric.

The fixture located in the main hall is what would have been referred to as a “hall harp”. This one gives off a Moroccan lantern vibe with its ornate pierced bronze and facetted colored glass “jewels”. It is rare for it not to be the first detail noticed by first time visitors upon entering the building.

The pair of matching chandeliers in the adjoining parlor feature Longway pottery elements. Longway pottery is named after the historic town of Longway, France. Inspired by Cloisonné and Meant to appeal to the trend of orientalism in France during the 1870's, this pottery is often a turquoise enamel base decorated with curvilinear floral patterns. These particular examples are finished in bronze and fitted with the recognized turquoise pottery.
