I reached 10 years of being a financial advisor over the weekend.

It’s been quite the journey: 10 years ago I started at Edward Jones and then got an office in Farmington. I was able to relocate on the same block and have a new office built for me. I worked there for 5-6 years and had hundreds of clients.

Having studied how the financial industry really works, I started my own company to be an independent fiduciary. It was a leap of faith, a lot of work, but well worth it. Having the ability to help people without being held back has been amazing through the pandemic and the bear market. I’m coming up on my 5 year anniversary of starting NextGen Financial Advice in March.

I’ve earned a Dundie Award for the last 10 years of success and look forward to earning another one in 2032. 😂

April is a time of autism acceptance/awareness.

To help other parents, here are a few quick autism facts:

-Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder with deficits in social/emotional skills and repetitive/restrictive behaviors
-The general autism screening questions are geared toward classical/severe autism, and not more mild/moderate autism
-The majority of autistic children can talk
-It is much more prevalent in boys
-Girls are underdiagnosed because they tend to be more social and use "scripts" to copy peers. They tend to get diagnosed as teenagers/adults
-Autism is genetic, so one autistic person probably has other family members with it who may not be diagnosed.
-Kids tend to get diagnosed with ADHD and ODD when they are actually autistic
-ODD diagnosis comes from their rigidity and inflexibility
-They still may have the ADHD though
-Should go to autism specialists for evaluation and not a regular pediatrician
-As scary as it may seem, an autism diagnosis is a pathway to getting help and understanding your family member or yourself
